Jesus Youth Palakkad

Jesus Youth is the international face of Catholic charismatic renewal among youth. The Movement has its beginnings in 1985. tor of charismatic movement Rev. Jose P Chittilapalli and Principal of Mercy College Rev. Sr. Chrisantha CMC gave the Movement extra momentum. In 1989 Mercy College hosted Campus Meet with over 600 participants. The support extended by the then Principal Rev. Ezekiel CMC was highly encouraging. Following this many Jesus Youth prayer meetings began in different schools and colleges in Palakkad. Campus Meets were held in 1992 and 1993 too. In 1994 with a focus on parishes Parish Fest was held. The year 1996 saw the birth of the music band Gloria. Campus Training programmes was held in different foranes in 1995-96 years. 1997 and 1999 saw two more Campus Meets and another Parish Fest in 2002 at Cathedral Church. The following years threw many crises upon the Movement and Diocesan level programmes were not organized even though Jesus Youth prayer groups were active. In 2010 Angels Army, one of the ministry’s of Jesus Youth began functioning in Palakkad. Erstwhile Jesus Youth members, youth and children began to have monthly prayer meetings in Mercy Home in Palakkad. At present we have around 12 active Jesus Youth prayer groups. The year 2013 was the year of resurgence for Jesus Youth Palakkad. Many youths from the zone participated in YOU hosted at Viswajyothi CMI Public School, Angamaly. Under the able and spiritual guidance of a fulltimer turned priest Rev. Jaimon Pallineerakkal the zone began to stretch its wings. A new music band named Beatz of Angels was formed in 2014. With a newfound spirit and the leadership of the new Service Team, Palakkad zone created programmes like My Jesus in 2014, The Face in January 2015, LEAD in May 2015, Heart 2 Heart in August 2015 and topped all this with Hesed in October 2015. In all our endevours the support given to us by our Elders is overwhelming. They are the ones who were with the Movement in all its highs and lows. Their support has always been instrumental in the thriving of the Movement in Palakkad. In 2016 we had LEAD, Missa; an initial programme at Jellipara, Attapady in May 2016, zonal level celebration and thanksgiving for the Pontifical Approval in July 2016 and another initial programme IGNITE in December 2016. The zone also had representatives elected to the International Assembly and Kerala Assembly in October 2016. Jesus Youth Formation began with Integration in November 2016 and the first Philip Course was on February 2017. Jesus Youth Palakkad also remembers all the respected Fathers namely Rev. Jose P Chittilapalli, Fr. John Maria Viyani Olakengil, Fr. Jose Kannambuzha, Fr. George Narikuzhy, Fr. Sebastian Thamarassery, Fr. Jaison Kollannur, Fr. Soji Olikkal, Fr. Anto Thaikattil, Fr. Reni Pullukalayil, Fr. Tom G Vadakkekara, Fr. Nilesh Thuruthuvelil , Fr. Justin Kolamkanny and all the Fulltimers who served here with heartfelt gratitude. At present the zone is lead by Rev Fr. Tojy Chellamkottu.
