This quote captures a deep biblical truth: we are all spiritually needy, and evangelism is simply one sinner pointing another to the only source of life—Jesus Christ.

In the eyes of God, every man is a beggar without Christ. The Scriptures declare:

“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;” (Romans 3:23, KJV)

We are not rich in righteousness. We are not self-sufficient. Spiritually, we are poor, hungry, and empty. Jesus Himself said:

“Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” (Matthew 5:3, KJV)

To be “poor in spirit” is to recognize our need—like a beggar who knows he cannot feed himself.

But God has provided bread.

Jesus said:

“I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.” (John 6:35, KJV)

This is the heart of evangelism—not pride, not superiority, but humility. One who has found Christ says to another, “I was hungry too… but I found bread.”

We see this beautifully in Scripture when the lepers discovered food during a famine:

“We do not well: this day is a day of good tidings, and we hold our peace… come, that we may go and tell the king’s household.” (2 Kings 7:9, KJV)

They realized it would be wrong to keep the good news to themselves. That is evangelism.

You are not called to act like a king—you are called to testify as one who was starving and has been fed by grace:

“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:” (Ephesians 2:8, KJV)

So when you share the gospel, you are not saying, “I am better.”
You are saying, “I was lost, but now I’m found.”

This should remove fear and pride. Evangelism is not about eloquence—it is about witness:

“Come and hear, all ye that fear God, and I will declare what he hath done for my soul.” (Psalm 66:16, KJV)

And the urgency is real, because many are still starving spiritually:

“Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life…” (John 6:27, KJV)

In summary:

• We are all beggars (sinners in need).

• Christ is the bread (the only source of life).

• Evangelism is sharing where that bread is found.

So go, not in pride—but in compassion.
Not as a master—but as a witness.
Not as one who has it all together—but as one who has found mercy.

“Freely ye have received, freely give.” (Matthew 10:8, KJV)
