AIMPLB Condemns Defamatory Remarks Against Madrasas by Bangladeshi Fugitive Writer
Urges Government of India to Prevent Foreign Refugees from Interfering in the Country’s Internal Affairs:

The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) has strongly condemned the inflammatory, misleading, and factually baseless remarks made by the controversial Bangladeshi fugitive writer Taslima Nasrin, who recently returned to India after a gap of nineteen years. Speaking to the media in Kolkata, she made highly provocative statements regarding the Uniform Civil Code and Islamic seminaries (madrasas). The Board has described her comments as an irresponsible attempt by a foreign national to interfere in India’s internal affairs.
In a press statement, AIMPLB Spokesperson Dr. S. Q. R. Ilyas said that alleging that Islamic seminaries promote extremism or produce “jihadis” is nothing but a blatant falsehood, a malicious slander, and a deliberate attempt to malign an entire religious and educational tradition. Such baseless accusations not only hurt the religious sentiments of millions of Indian Muslims but also appear to be a calculated effort to vitiate the country’s communal harmony.
Dr. Ilyas said it is deeply regrettable that a foreign national, who herself is living in India as a refugee, is making inflammatory comments on the country’s religious, constitutional, and social issues. He emphasized that India cannot permit anyone, under the guise of freedom of expression, to spread hatred, defame religious institutions, or interfere in the country’s internal affairs. He urged the Government of India to ensure that such individuals remain within the bounds of the law and to prevent the recurrence of such provocative statements.
Referring to Taslima Nasrin’s comments on Bangladesh, Dr. Ilyas said that her remarks were equally irresponsible and inconsistent with India’s balanced foreign policy. Such statements have the potential to adversely affect bilateral relations between the two neighbouring countries, and the Government of India should take serious note of this aspect as well.
Dr. Ilyas further observed that the campaign to malign Islamic seminaries is not new. Similar allegations have been made repeatedly over the past several decades, yet neither those making these accusations have ever produced any credible evidence, nor has any investigative or security agency in the country substantiated such claims. Despite this, vilifying madrasas has become part of an organised political and ideological campaign.
He pointed out that the reality is that thousands of madrasas across India provide education to millions of children without placing any financial burden on the national exchequer. Thousands of their graduates go on to obtain higher qualifications from leading universities and serve the nation with distinction in the judiciary, academia, journalism, civil services, social work, and many other fields. Defaming such institutions, which render invaluable national service, is not only unjust but also detrimental to the country’s educational and social harmony.
The All India Muslim Personal Law Board calls upon the Government of India to take serious cognisance of these inflammatory remarks, prevent foreign refugees from interfering in India’s internal and religious affairs, and ensure that the country’s constitutional and social fabric is not allowed to become a casualty of the hate-driven politics of any foreign individual.
