For Kim, a 19-year-old from Battambang, Cambodia, this right once felt out of reach. Raised by her grandparents and struggling at school, she often felt left behind.

Everything changed when she joined the student centre run by our partner Karuna Battambang Organization

“I get the opportunity to learn many things — not only school lessons but cooking, relationships and how to live in a community.”

Today, Kim is confident, hopeful, and dreaming of studying bakery so she can support her family and help others.

On Human Rights Day, Kim’s journey reminds us:
✨ the right to learn can change a life.

Annual Meeting of the Service of Faith Coordinators Held at Manresa, Ranchi

The annual meeting of the Service of Faith Coordinators of the South Asian Conference was held at Manresa, Ranchi, from September 26 to 28, 2025, graciously hosted by the Ranchi Province. The meeting was inaugurated by Fr Jerome Stanislaus D’Souza, SJ (POSA), who reminded participants that the Service of Faith remains central to the Jesuit mission and encouraged reflections rooted in a synodal vision of the Church.

The highlight of the meeting was the presentation by Fr A. Joseph Xavier, SJ (MDU), who unveiled the Pastoral Plan: Journeying towards a Synodal Church – Mission 2033. He inspired participants to imagine new pathways of ministry, emphasizing collaboration, inclusion, and renewal. His clear and pastorally sensitive framework provided both direction and practical steps for action in the years ahead.

Two sessions on Youth Catechesis, led by Fr Savari Joseph (PUN) and Fr Kustas Lima (GOA), emphasized relational, contextual, and creative approaches to engage young people as active protagonists of faith. Another notable contribution was by Fr Francis Minj, SJ, who traced the history of the Ranchi Province, offering fresh insights into its struggles, growth, and enduring faith.

The three-day meeting concluded with sharing of experiences, visits to mission stations, and heartfelt gratitude to the Ranchi Province for their warm hospitality, particularly acknowledging the Province Coordinator, Fr Samir Dungdung, for his meticulous planning. Participants departed with a renewed sense of purpose and a shared commitment to journey together in the Service of Faith towards Mission 2033.

Annual Meeting of Ecology and Justice Secretariats at Ashirvad, Bengaluru

The Annual Meeting of Ecology and Justice Secretariats of the South Asian Jesuit Conference was held at Ashirvad, Bangalore on 20-21 October 2025. The two-day meeting, hosted by Fr.Jerald D’Souza and coordinated by Fr. Xavier Soreng, JCSA Secretary for Ecology & Justice.

Day 1 featured sharing of new initiatives, best practices, and challenges across Provinces, emphasizing the interconnection between ecology and social justice. Key concerns discussed included economic inequality, caste and gender discrimination and environmental degradation. The day concluded with an evening Eucharist celebrated by Fr. John Felix (DUM), focusing on justice, equity, and democratic integrity.

Day 2 began with a Eucharistic celebration by Fr. Nazareth Joseph, followed by a recap of the previous day by Fr. S. M. Kennedy. Coordinators from various national networks—Quality Education (Sankalp), Eco-Jesuits, Justice in Mining, Migration Assistance Information Network (MAIN), and Jesuit Youth Ministry of South Asia (JYMSA)—shared updates, highlighting ongoing advocacy, livelihood programs, and youth leadership formation.

In discussions on the relevance of Social Action Ministry, participants reaffirmed its central importance in addressing present-day injustices, calling for renewed commitment, collective effort, and deeper formation rooted in liberation theology and constitutional values. The meeting also introduced a new methodology for assessment of social action ministries and proposed forming a Central Accompaniment Team to coordinate across regions. Plans were made for enhanced networking and collaboration with social research institutions.
