समुद्रमंथनाच्या नंतर समुद्रातून चौदा रत्ने निघाली. त्यांतील अमृतासाठी देव आणि दैत्य यांच्यात वाद उत्पंन्न झाला. वाद मिटत नाही असे दिसून येताच देवांनी श्री विष्णूंना वाद मिटविण्याची विनंती केली. दैत्य हे विषयलोलुप, त्यांच्या या वृत्तीचा फायदा घेण्याचे श्री विष्णूंनी ठरवीले. श्री विष्णूंनी मोहिनीचे रूप घेतले. सर्व देवांना त्यांनी अमृत वाटले आणि दैत्य फक्त मोहिनी कडेच बघत बसले. मोहिनी वर भाळून दैत्य
अमृतास मुकले. राहूने चुकून अमृत प्राशन केले, पण श्री विष्णूंनी त्याचा शिरच्छेद केला. श्री विष्णूंनी घेतलेल्या या मोहिनी अवतारामुळे त्यांचे नाव मोहिनीराज असे प्रचलीत झाले. याच अवताराला कोणी अर्धनारी नटेश्वरही म्हणतात. नेवासे गावात श्री मोहिनीराजाचे मंदीर आहे
In the basic Hindu Trinity of Brahma,
Vishnu and Shiva , the Hindu god
Vishnu is the preserver and protector
of creation . Vishnu is the embodiment
of mercy and goodness, the self -
existent, all-pervading power that
preserves the universe and maintains
the cosmic order. The new structure of this
temple was constructed in 1773 at a
cost of about Rs. 5 Lakhs by
Gangadhar Yashwant Chandradur. The 75 feet tall temple is decorated all
over with ornamental work. The shrine
houses an image of Mohiniraj better
known as Lord Vishnu . Also, in the
Sabhamandan (Meeting Room)
several images of other gods and
goddesses such as Ganesh, Shiv –
Parvati, Shani and Hanuman Ji . According to a legend associated to
this place, the time when sea was
churned to get nectar , Lord Vishnu
appeared in the form of Mohini to
distract the demons and deprive them
of nectar. The demons stared at
Mohini while Vishnu distributed
nectar to gods and water to demons. Hence the effigy of the temple is also
known as Ardhnari Nateshwar , i.e .,
Lord Vishnu’ s damsel form. Throughout the year three fairs are
held in the town in honour of
Mohiniraj.
