It is important not just to practice, but to practice well. You can practice daily and still make very slow progress if you are not practicing well. To make the most progress with the least effort, your individual practice time should include the following.

Set goals
Set practice times
Warm up
Work on it

Tip: Sometimes, two or even more shorter practice sessions are better than one extended period. You can fit in some work before school, for example, then another short period later in the day, perhaps after supper so as not to conflict with other after-school activities.

Tip: Very simple but something that many people miss. Simply by thinking about what it is you want to acheive you will improve more quickly. Do this both before and during your practise sessions. Before each repetition stop and think 'What am I trying to do?'

Tip: Whether you're new to guitar or been at it a while, never be afraid to let your fingers go walking in new places... you never know what new chords you'll find. Just as an example, sliding all your fingers up by two, three or five frets from open-A-major, will give you some interesting variations to play with. But that's just an example; try repositioning individual fingers by one or more frets. Learn to use the pinkie finger if you don't already. Hooking the thumb over one or more of the lower strings, can make chords sound fuller, richer, more powerful.

Tip: Start practice with a few tunes that you enjoy, tunes with which you're comfortable, tunes that make you feel good. Make a list of them and keep it handy. When you've done some of these, you'll feel more relaxed and confident about playing harder tunes. Start with tunes that you can sing as well as play. Involve your mind and soul and enjoy your music.

Tip: When learning to play a piece of music, play it first so slowly that you don't get a single note wrong. Then slowly increase the speed. Then, play louder than normal at the proper speed and you'll play more confidently

Tip: No matter what kind of musical instrument you play, some kind of practice schedule needs to be followed. Practice at least once a day. You can even split up your practice, like maybe 45 minutes in the morning and another 45 in the evening. If you are not able to practice daily you can practice every other day or once a week, but if you want to get the best of an acoustic guitar you need to practice every day.
