What is dowry in Sikhism?

Dowry according to Sri Guru Granth Sahib, the Sikh Holy Book....

"O my father, give me the Name of the Lord God as my wedding gift and dowry.
Give me the Lord as my wedding gown, and the Lord as my glory, to accomplish my works.
Through devotional worship to the Lord, this ceremony is made blissful and beautiful; the Guru, the True Guru, has given this gift.
Across the continents, and throughout the Universe, the Lord's Glory is pervading. This gift is not diminished by being diffused among all.
Any other dowry, which the self-willed manmukhs offer for show, is only false egotism and a worthless display.
O my father, please give me the Name of the Lord God as my wedding gift and dowry."

Pregnant women to her husband- Dear I am going to have our baby in two months, are u not excited.

Husband- A lot sweetheart, I can't wait for that moment.☺

Pregnant wife- But still u havent told me what u are expecting, u want a boy or girl? 👶👧

Husband-(hahaha) Does it make a difference?🤔

Pregnant wife- No it doesn't but still everyone has a liking, if it will be a boy I will do this or that or if would be a girl I will do this and so on.😵

Husband- Oh like that , oh yes I have some thing in my mind about that.😎

Pregnant wife- Really! Tell me. 😊

Husband- If we have a boy, I will teach him all mischievous things, I will teach him maths,we will go for sports, I will teach him fishing and so on.🏃⛷🤸‍♀🏊🚴

Pregnant wife- haha ...and what about girl.😊

Husband- If we have a girl..I will not teach her anything.😊

Pregnant wife- Why?😳

Husband- Because she will be the one who will teach me all the things again...😍
like how to dress, how to eat, what to say, what not to say...in short she will be my second mom and She will consider me as her hero even though if I have not done anything special, she will always understand when I will refuse her for something, she will always compare her husband to be like me, no matter how old she will be but she always want that I should treat her like my baby doll, she will fight with world for me and if someone hurts me she will never forgive that person!👸

Pregnant wife- So you mean to say that your daughter will do all these things but your son will not do.😒

Husband- No no..... maybe he will do the same but he will learn to do... but daughters are born with it.. being the father of a daughter is the pride for any man. 😇

Pregnant wife- But darling she will not be with us forever.☹

Husband- Yes but we will be with her in her heart forever, where ever she goes...... so does it make a difference?👨‍👩‍👧❤

बेटी की बचपन से ही आदत थी..।
वो जन्मदिन आने के 4-5 दिन पहले से ही कहने लगती ..
"पापा गिफ्ट ले लिया????"
मै मुस्कराता....
नहीं में सर हिलाता..
वो गुस्से से मुँह फुला लेती..
फिर जन्मदिन के दिन सरप्राइज़ मिलता तो बहुत खुश होती..।

इस बार वो ससुराल में थी..
आज उसका जन्मदिन था, मैं भी गिफ्ट खरीद कर वहीँ जा पहुँचा..
सरप्राइज़ की नीयत से दबे पावँ दाखिल हुआ...
अंदर से बेटी के रोने और उसके पति और सास के लड़ने की आवाज़ें आ रही थी..
मै बोझिल दिल से पलटा...
सड़क के किनारे आकर, फोन पर उसके ससुराल आने की ख्वाहिश की तो वह बोली....

"पापा...आज ना आएं......हम बाहर डिनर करने आएं हैं ...
मेरा बर्थडे है ना!!!!!"

नाज़ुक पर ज़िद्दी दिखने वाली ये बेटियाँ समय के साथ कितना बदल लेती है अपने को । अपने हाथों से बड़ा करने वाले माँ बाप की कल्पना से भी कहीं ज्यादा ।

ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਮੇਰੇ ਬਾਬੁਲਾ ਹਰਿ ਦੇਵਹੁ ਦਾਨੁ ਮੈ ਦਾਜੋ ॥
हरि प्रभु मेरे बाबुला हरि देवहु दानु मै दाजो ॥
O my father, give me the Name of the Lord God (spiritual wisdom) as my wedding gift and dowry.
ਹਰਿ ਕਪੜੋ ਹਰਿ ਸੋਭਾ ਦੇਵਹੁ ਜਿਤੁ ਸਵਰੈ ਮੇਰਾ ਕਾਜੋ ॥
हरि कपड़ो हरि सोभा देवहु जितु सवरै मेरा काजो ॥
Give me the Lord as my wedding gown, and the Lord as my glory, to accomplish my works.

Nonsense of Police stations.

Situations like these are explicit examples of gender policing. The police officer seems to be saying that a woman’s violation of gender-based restrictions warrants inappropriate treatment - that she was somehow "asking for it" because she refused to adhere to cultural norms. The passing of vulgar comments is not taken as inexcusable misconduct on the part of the offenders, but rather righteous retribution toward a miscreant. What is even more horrifying is that it is not enough for the woman to abide by the restrictions; it must be explicitly apparent that she is doing so. The woman in the story is abiding by all cultural restrictions - she is appropriately dressed and out with her husband. What the officer is reprimanding her for is perceived disobedience, which is taken to be as much of a wrongdoing as actual nonconformity.

Stop gender policing.
