Pastoral counseling course
Psychology and counseling students will find educational resources and training guides online through open course classes. Open course helps busy students and counselors further their knowledge and skills, learn more about their field without having to enroll in and attend expensive college or institutes. These classes are available to be accessed anywhere, at any time, as long as the student has access to an Internet connection. The course includes classes in dynamic family relationships, marital issues, issues before marriage, divorce, fear, lack of interest in anything, repeated failures, repeated illness, suicidal mania, lack of ability to take decisions, anger, mental aberrations, drinking and related problems smoking, drugs, substance abuse, general mental health, personal issues, stress and strain, mental problems children’s and youth problems. Apart from these there are problems of sin and parental curses. People going as far to su***de due to despair, boys and girls who have lost their aim and fruitfulness in life, couples who have lost their dear ones, having no children, broken family relationships due to unfaithfulness and sins of the youth, broken with despair and loss of the dear ones can come to normal peaceful life. In these situations, there are people who go after black magic, ta***ic and mantric acts, satanic acts, and become cheated without finding any remedy. But we must know that the one who can solve all the problems is Almighty God. Even if we take medicines, actual healing comes from Him. He can see even the most interior realm of our heart, body and mind with all their problems and can give total and complete freedom and cure. So we may also give biblical and spiritual training in methods to be used in the problem solving sessions. These courses give students a broad-based understanding of the different types of counseling; They also give working knowledge to develop strong communication and interpersonal skills, quick decision-making skills, and an understanding of the scientific and social issues surrounding the field. Lessons will give insight to problem solving skills using counseling skills together with spiritual methodology to be used in the process. The online Pastoral Counseling course is designed for people in leadership of the Church for people in lay counseling ministry. The leaders of the Church today encounter a number of complex problems which exceeds their capacity to solve. With today’s complex human needs, the church members also demand attentive care — whether physical, spiritual, social, or emotional. Thus, training laity to help with pastoral counseling to meet current demands is necessary for the work of the ministry. The biblical basis for empowering laity comes from Pauline teaching that God has given apostles, prophets, evangelists, and pastor-teachers to “shape up”, to mend, to set broken bones together; to reconcile political parties; to furnish, to equip the saints (the faithful) for the work of the ministry. (Ephesians 4:11–13). This pastoral counseling should be functional, helpful, and desirable. Some synthesize lay counseling into two trends: Those who integrate theology and psychology, and those who subscribe to strict biblical counseling. In reality, pastoral counseling should integrate both these trends: skills and practices from the psychological models and integrating theological and biblical sources. Here the theological and biblical realities are supported by psychological skills
Qualities of a Pastoral counselor
We define a pastoral counselor in terms of his call and giftedness derived from the Holy Spirit. He should be obedient to the scripture having faith in God. He must cooperate with the Holy Spirit in the work of sanctification and healing. He must be a man having empathy, unconditional love and positive regard for people. He must be genuine, flexible, mature and impartial in his judgments. He also must have high ethical standards to keep confidentiality and personal conduct. He needs to be psychologically stable having a genuine love for the people. We expect counselors to have a knowledge of the word of God, not dogmatic but spiritual attained by meditating over the word of God.
