Subject: CEPCS-Social Service Committee Extends Humanitarian Relief Support to Affected Families in Nuwakot, Nepal
Nuwakot, Nepal, 16th September, 2026
The Social Service Committee of the Christian Evangelical Presbyterian Church of Sikkim (CEPCS), led by Rev. Bijoy Chettri, Moderator, CEPCS, and comprising Rev. Yozun Sherpa, Rev. Malachi Tamang, Mr. Milan Rai & Rev. Dr. Arbind Pokhrel, with the Crossway Church Team, Nepal, undertook a humanitarian relief mission to Tupche Tar, Bidur Nagarpalika, Ward No. 7, Nuwakot District, Nepal on 16th September, 2026.
The delegation traversed approximately 5-6 kilometres on foot through difficult terrain and crossed a high-risk zipline to access Tupche Mandali, a remote settlement where humanitarian relief has remained largely inaccessible.
During the visit, the delegation held consultations with Pastor Dipak Yonzon of Tupche Mandali and took stock of the prevailing situation. It was reported that the community has suffered the loss of five members. Presently, six families are sheltered in temporary tents, four families have taken refuge within the church premises, and two families are residing in a poultry shed.
Following a period of prayer and community interaction, the Committee extended financial assistance to 18 severely affected families, namely: Khurmila Ghaley, Santosh Tamang, Hiraman Tamang, Sarita Ghaley, Santoshi Tamang, Siporah Tamang, Abhiya Ghaley, Meg Bahadur Tamang, Sri Hang Tamang, Tombley Ghaley, Pradina Ghaley, Rowta Tamang, Prem Kumari Tamang, Bhumika Tamang, Margang Tamang, Suk Bahadur Tamang, Pastor Dipak Yonzon and Pastor Hira Bahadur Ghaley.
The delegation observed that due to geographical challenges, essential commodities and relief materials are being transported via drone services, while local residents continue to rely on ziplines, with a capacity of two persons at a time, for daily transit.
The members of Tupche Mandali conveyed their profound gratitude to the CEPCS delegation for undertaking the arduous journey from Sikkim to extend humanitarian support and solidarity during this critical hour.
The Social Service Committee, CEPCS, humbly appeals to all churches and believers to continue to uphold the affected families and the people of Nepal in their prayers.
