On the auspicious occasion of Saka Dawa, when it is said that the effects of positive actions are multiplied many times, we are pleased to offer the opportunity to send offerings and dedications to Gaden Shartse monastery, Mundgod, Karnataka, India, in support of the ‘Sixteen Arhats Ritual’ to be performed on May 31st, 2026. You are cordially invited to participate. Gompa member-supporters can send offerings, together with dedications, at any time up until May 31st, 2026.
The Event:
Saka Dawa commemorates the holiest and most sacred days in Tibetan Buddhism. Falling in the fourth month of the Tibetan calendar, the special activities during Saka Dawa culminate on the full moon of the 15th lunar day, which this year falls on May 31st, 2026. This time is associated with three major events in the life of Buddha Shakyamuni — his birth, enlightenment, and mahaparinirvana.
It is said that the Buddha himself selected the Sixteen Arhats from amongst his disciples and requested them to protect the Dharma. At the time of the Buddha’s Parinirvana, they vowed to remain in the world and maintain the Dharma until the time of the future Buddha Maitreya. This puja, ‘The Wish-fulfilling Gem Enhancing the Buddha’s Teachings’, a method for making offerings and prayers to Shakyamuni Buddha and the Sixteen Arhats, is said to bring special blessings for long life and to quickly generate merit.
