India is land of many places of worships especially temples. Because of this, floral market in those places occupies major a major share and is an important source of income to local traders as thousands of devotees’ daily throng to these temples and pay floral tributes. This is not the problem of one city but throughout the Indian sub-continent. Proper disposal of floral offerings is a major prob

lem due to shortage of dumping grounds and stringent environmental laws. Because of these difficulties tons of floral offerings generated daily are generally disposed in open dumps or is released into local water bodies generating foul odour as well as act as breeding centres for disease causing organisms. Looking into the hazardous impact of the improper disposal of waste on environment, emphasis should be given to effective recycling and reusing mechanisms. This floral offerings increase at the time of festive seasons. There is a continuous increase in the floral offerings due to continuous increase in population. The proportion of people working in India slipped and the share of unemployment ticked up and this is much greater in the women due to various family obligations to study or work. The crisis of unemployment is stark and in rural areas this is higher compared to urban areas. We want to address these two issues simultaneously by making of incense sticks using these floral offerings at places of worship and employing the women in this process (either part time or full time) who are otherwise unemployed due to lack of education and family obligations.

In November 2017, India was declared the sixth most vulnerable country in the world in terms of facing extreme weather events with Haiti, Zimbabwe, Fiji, Sri Lanka and Vietnam taking top five positions in the fresh list of nations facing climate risk.
And this year, India is the global host of 2018 World Environment Day which will take place on June 5, 2018. With “Beat Plastic Pollution” as the theme for this year's edition, the world is coming together to combat single-use plastic
With less than a month before the celebrations begin, we planned to share the most common and disgusting pictures from the few of the many 'Solid Waste Disposal Sites' that our team has visited and studied over last few months.

We hope to create awareness and make everyone understand that the disposal sites/dumping cities in India are not able to cater to the increasing waste generation and has more than 60% of the reusable things esp, 'The Plastic Pollution'.
Waste Management should begin at our homes and Reduce, Reuse and Recycle of Waste is the small step that everyone can take in order to save the environment.
