Yoga-Narayana 🙏
Bhagwan Vishnu Ji sitting in meditative pose.
यत्र योगेश्वर: कृष्णो यत्र पार्थो धनुर्धर: |
तत्र श्रीर्विजयो भूतिध्रुवा नीतिर्मतिर्मम ||
Geeta attributes Sri Krishna (A incarnation of Sri Vishnu) as a Yogeshwar (Lord of Yoga)
योगो योगविदां नेता प्रधान पुरुषेश्वरः ।
नारसिंहवपुः श्रीमान् केशवः पुरुषोत्तमः ॥
As per Vishnu Shahasranam Sri Vishnu himself is the yoga (Yogo) and leader of all yogis (yogavidam Neta)
Origin :- It is said that once Vishnu lost all his ‘shaktis’ due to a curse, this led him to resort to it through a penance and Yoga- Narayana emerged. Strangely, the colour of his hands is red – the colour of fire, which destroys all impurities and lets only the pure transmit into the ‘Essential Being’ that is the ‘Self’. Further, he has been represented without his usual garland of Parijata flowers, symbol of his imperial authority, which in his Yogi posture is not relevant.
Iconography :- Bhagwan Vishnu in his form as Yoga- Narayana, also known as Yoga- Murti Vishnu, seated cross-legged in Yoga Asana posture. Unlike Vishnu’s usual postures either as standing or resting, and carrying his characteristic attributes disc, conch, mace and lotus, this four-armed image of Yoga Narayana carries only two of them disc and conch in upper extra hands, while his other two normal hands are laid downwards suspending as when engaged in meditation. Yog Narayan’s entire body-colour is yellow, not the usual blue symbolising purity which is the essence of Yoga.
