G.S.B Sarvajanik Ganeshotsava Samiti, Wadala known as “Sonyacha Ganpati” or “Navasacha Ganpati” is one of the most popular and richest Ganeshotsav Samiti in Mumbai. It was founded in the year 1955, as a part of an initiative led by Dwarkanath Shripad Wader Swamiji, Gokarn Partagali Mutt. as a religious significance as it's the only Ram Temple all over India which is built across a temple dedicated to Lord Hanuman. Devotees from all over Mumbai visit the samiti every year for 10 days Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations in huge numbers to pay their obeisance to Lord Ganesha. The festival is wholly managed by volunteers who willingly come together each year and wholeheartedly contribute towards celebrations. During the festival, special emphasis are laid on rituals such as Bhagwad Gita recitation, Tulabhar seva and other seva’s including Individual Ganahoma, Ranga Pooja, Ratri Pooja, etc all performed in the most traditional manner. Especially on the auspicious occasion of Anant Chaturdashi (the day of Ganapati Visarjan) devotees gather to witness the golden moment when Lord Ganesha meets Lord Ram and Lord Hanuman as a gesture to bid goodbye. Other than these traditional activities G.S.B Sarvajanik Ganeshotsava Samiti, Wadala has been actively engaged in providing various educational and social welfare initiatives in the form of scholarships to merit holders, other educational and medical assistance to the needy etc. Also, cultural and fun activities such as Sangeet Bhajan Sandhya, Musical programmes, Fancy dress competition, Dance Competition, Konkani Drama (Natak), etc are held in the premises every year during Ganeshotsava. Apart from Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations one of the other main functions held in the premises is Shri Ram Navami, celebrating the birth of Shri Ram - the presiding deity of the temple. This grand nine day celebration starts from Gudi Padwa and thus culminating in Brahmarathotsav (Chariot festival) where the diety is virajman on a rath and pulled by thousands of devotees to Dadar TT circle and back to the temple. Various other festivals that are significant to Vaishnav Madhva Sampradaya such as Shri Krishna Janmashtami, Ashadi Ekadashi, Nagapanchami, Navachandi Homa, Varalakshmi Vrat, Durga Namaskar, Vishwaroop darshan etc are also held at the venue throughout the year.
