American researcher Andrew Hernandez has recently embraced Shia Islam. The conversion took place on May 15, 2026, at the Islamic Educational Center of Orange County (IECOC) in California, where he recited the Shahada in front of Imam Sayed Moustafa al-Qazwini.

He spent 15 months deeply studying Islamic history, Shia teachings, and real-life experiences. According to him, the courage of the Shia community in the face of injustice, their strong faith, and the teachings of Ahlul Bayt (AS) — especially on patience (sabr), truth, and high morals — profoundly moved him.
The news has gone viral across Shia pages on Instagram, Facebook, and Threads, with many people warmly welcoming him to the faith.

Assim Al-Hakeem has repeatedly refused to accept Iran and its Shia Muslims as a true Islamic country and has strongly criticized them.
According to him:
Twelver Shia (who are secretly called Rafidah in their circles) have major “deviations” in their aqeedah — such as excessive love for Hazrat Ali (a.s.) and the Imams of Ahl-e-Bait (a.s.), and their historical views against some Sahaba. All this takes them outside “mainstream Sunni Islam.”
He considers Iran’s Islamic regime a big problem both politically and in terms of aqeedah. Therefore, he warns Sunni people not to support Iran, especially during its confrontation and resistance against Israel and the US. His stance clearly shows a bias against Iran.
