The battle of Badr was the first of the great battles of Islam and it was fought on 17th Ramadan 2 A.H! It was 313 Muslims vs 1000+ Non believing Quraysh under the leadership of Abu Jahl....and it was the Muslims who won the battle with the help of Allah (swt) in the end!
So what do we learn from the Battle of Badr:-

Before arrival to the battle, Allah subแธฅฤnahu wa ta'ฤla (glorified and exalted be He) sent down the rain to soften the ground over which the Prophet แนฃallallฤhu 'alayhi wa sallam (peace and blessings of Allฤh be upon him) and his army traveled, making them and the animals more sure-footed, whilst the Meccans had parts of their trail washed away and in mud making it difficult for them. Remember that Allah subแธฅฤnahu wa ta'ฤla (glorified and exalted be He) always opens a pathway for success when we place our full conviction and have firm faith in Him.

This battle is where the early Muslims learned the lesson of the power of total reliance on Allah subแธฅฤnahu wa ta'ฤla (glorified and exalted be He). And it is the place where Allah subแธฅฤnahu wa ta'ฤla (glorified and exalted be He) guides the new Muslim community โ teaching them the way of reliance on Him. Allah subแธฅฤnahu wa ta'ฤla (glorified and exalted be He) sent the angels from the unseen world to give firmness to the believers and fulfill His Command. This was a fulfillment of Allahโs subแธฅฤnahu wa ta'ฤla (glorified and exalted be He) promise to send tranquility upon those who have firm faith: โWhen He caused calm to fall on you as a security from Him.โ [8:11]

Amongst the signs of tawakkul in Allah subแธฅฤnahu wa ta'ฤla (glorified and exalted be He) from the companions, was their complete trust that they could conquer the large army despite the ratio difference. It is from the grounds of the battlefield we often find many verses revealed in the Qurโan of the spiritual and physical strength that was required.
The success of the Muslims is only by Allah subแธฅฤnahu wa ta'ฤla (glorified and exalted be He), so we should remember we are not productive due to our own efforts. Allah subแธฅฤnahu wa ta'ฤla (glorified and exalted be He) revealed after the battle: โAnd you did not kill them, but it was Allah who killed them. And you threw not, [O Muhammad], when you threw, but it was Allah who threw that He might test the believers with a good test. Indeed, Allah is Hearing and Knowing.โ [8:17]
Similarly, the fight of the soul to develop itself is enduring this month so that you may reap many rewards, yet you must seek success from Allah subแธฅฤnahu wa ta'ฤla (glorified and exalted be He).

The Prophet แนฃallallฤhu 'alayhi wa sallam (peace and blessings of Allฤh be upon him) knew that he and his Companions raแธyAllฤhu 'anhum (may Allฤh be pleased with them) were not alone in this battle. The Qurโan revealed that Angels joined the battlefield to help the Muslims.Letโs ask ourselves, how can we practically bring such aid from Allah subแธฅฤnahu wa ta'ฤla (glorified and exalted be He) in our day to day life? This is where the inner jihad that takes place in serving Allah subแธฅฤnahu wa ta'ฤla (glorified and exalted be He) comes into play. We are taught that internally we must open our soul with firm faith in Allah subแธฅฤnahu wa ta'ฤla (glorified and exalted be He) and guide our body and actions to good deeds in order to receive assistance from Allah subแธฅฤnahu wa ta'ฤla (glorified and exalted be He) and to turn away from the distractions of Shaytan.

Today, Muslims worldwide are divided yet the Battle of Badr affirmed the fruits of being united as a brotherhood. They solidified their lines, and became like an immovable wall. The Quraysh were inwardly full of fear and all the confidence which had been there as they set out from Mecca was washed out of them as they met the well-disciplined Muslim army. Even Shaytan fled the scene in the overwhelming spiritual presence and Help of Allah subแธฅฤnahu wa ta'ฤla (glorified and exalted be He) that descended on the united Muslims.
Allah subแธฅฤnahu wa ta'ฤla (glorified and exalted be He) said: โAnd [remember] when Satan made their deeds pleasing to them and said, โNo one can overcome you today from among the people, and indeed, I am your protector.โ But when the two armies sighted each other, he turned on his heels and said, โIndeed, I am disassociated from you. Indeed, I see what you do not see; indeed I fear Allah. And Allah is severe in penalty.โ [8:48]

One of the biggest lessons of Badr, is that that we shouldnโt feel defeated this Ramadan. We shouldnโt feel defeated internally; by giving up to laziness, or making excuses, or failing to perform our utmost to serve Allah subแธฅฤnahu wa ta'ฤla (glorified and exalted be He). And we shouldnโt feel defeated collectively, as an Ummah, regardless of our circumstances, for truly the victory of Allah subแธฅฤnahu wa ta'ฤla (glorified and exalted be He) is near.
Whilst the lesson are manifold from the battle of Badr, we hope the above is useful.
