Thokur is a small village situated in Mangalore taluk south canara district of karnataka state
Alhamdulillah in this village we have a masjid which is said to be more than two hundred years old.Thokur Jamia Masjid was built by the early settlers of Assadi family in late 1700s who arrived here from Persian Gulf. This masjid was managed by Assadi Trust Registered in 1921. Now this masjid is under THOKUR JAMIA MASJID TRUST (R) and the masjid is managed by the working committee chosen by the Trust. From last few years the mass migration of
Muslim families from Thokur to the nearby Cities there are only few handful of Muslim families left who are residing here, this migration created the financial disturbance for the maintenance of this masjid. To tackle this issue the then committee members of Masjid decided to rent out the land of Masjid to needy people who can settle down in Thokur. At present there are 58 families residing in Masjids 13 acres of land for Rs 2000/- rent per Annum (at present). Problem we are facing is there is 20 Acres of more land belonging to Thokur Jamia Masjid but it is in illegal encroachment. THOKUR JAMIA MASJID TRUST and working committee holds the plan to have a unique school in this land for future generation through collaboration, which will have both Islamic and regular education including sports and skill training, but before that we have to take this land back from the illegal encroachers through the court and the Masjid Trust is not financially stable to bear the court expenses. At present Masjid monthly expenses is Rs 40 to 45000 which is paid through land rent income and donations. So we have decided to go out and reach our people who like to donate for the noble cause.
