YCS Derebail Unit Organises Session on the Holy Rosary

The YCS Derebail Unit organised a one-hour session on “Praying the Rosary” as part of the October observance dedicated to the Holy Rosary. The session was conducted for YCS members and Class 10 Catechism students.

The guest speaker for the session was Sr. Maria, who beautifully explained how to use the Rosary and highlighted the importance of praying it in daily life. Through her real-life examples, she inspired everyone to develop a deeper devotion to Mother Mary.

The programme began with a prayer led by Ms. Pearl Lobo- YCS liturgy secretary,invoking God’s blessings. Ms. Minal Lobo- Cell Leader, extended a warm welcome to the guest and all participants and Mr. Roy Rego- Yuvathare representative proposed the vote of thanks at the conclusion of the session.

YCS Animators-Mr. Gladson Monteiro, Mr. Rohan Monis, Mr. Lenn Sequeira, and Mrs. Jonita Monteiro were also present.

The session was both informative and spiritually enriching, helping the young participants understand and appreciate the power of the Holy Rosary.

YCS Derebail Celebrates Konkani Manyatha Diwas with Cultural Fervour

The Young Catholic Students (YCS) of Derebail Parish celebrated Konkani Manyatha Diwas on 31 August,2025 with great enthusiasm and pride, showcasing their love and respect for the Konkani language and culture. The event witnessed vibrant participation and drew a large crowd from the parish community.

The program commenced with a colorful procession that marked the beginning of the celebrations, as the Chief Guest Rev. Fr Joseph Martis ,the Parish Priest and Guest of Honour Rev. Fr Wilson Tauro, OCD, Assistant Parish priest- Fr Nelson Peris, Br Augustine, PPC Vice -President, Mrs Sheela D’Souza and PPC Secretary Mr Denzil Pinto were escorted by YCS members and animators under traditional umbrellas, and were warmly welcomed with the symbolic “Paan-Pod Udhak”.

The significance of the Konkani flag was highlighted and a song celebrating the language's heritage was sung, adding to the cultural spirit of the event. In a moment of solemn respect for the repose of the soul of Mr Eric Ozario — a stalwart who dedicated his life to the promotion of the Konkani language — silence was observed.

The formal inauguration of the program took place with the breaking of a coconut, symbolizing purity and blessing, by the chief guests.

Adding vibrancy to the event, the YCS members performed traditional Konkani Baila dances, which energized the audience and highlighted the rich cultural traditions of the community.

Addressing the gathering, Rev. Fr Joseph Martis spoke on the importance of preserving and promoting Konkani language. He emphasized that the language lives through its speakers and encouraged the youth and children to take pride in using Konkani language in daily life.

To further lift the spirits, the YCS members performed a melodious Mando trained by Mr Anil Patrao, capturing the emotional essence and lyrical beauty of Konkani music.

Mr Avinash ably compered the programme, while also highlighting the beauty and cultural significance of the Konkani language.

The YCS animators- Mr Gladson Monteiro, Mr Rohan Monis, Mr Lenn Sequeira, Ms Primal Furtado and Mrs Jonita Monteiro were also present.

The event concluded with a heartfelt Vote of Thanks, marking the end of a meaningful and culturally rich celebration.

VANAMAHOTSAV Celebration by YCS Derebail.

Vanamahotsav was celebrated on 17th August 2025 during the YCS meeting in the presence of the asst. Parish Priest Fr Nelson Peris and the animators Mr. Gladson Monteiro, Mr. Rohan Monis, Mrs. Jonita Monteiro, Mr. Lenn Sequeira and Ms Primal Furtado.

The members of YCS arrived dressed in shades of green, symbolizing the beauty and freshness of nature. As a mark of the occasion, the executive committee members, together with the Priest, planted a sapling, signifying growth, sustainability, and care for the environment. Rev. Fr. Nelson also delivered a short yet inspiring talk on the importance of protecting nature, nurturing trees, and building an eco-friendly future.

The celebration was further enriched with cell-wise activities conducted by the committee members. Various interactive games, creative challenges, and team-building activities filled the atmosphere with joy and enthusiasm. These activities not only entertained the youth but also highlighted the message of unity, responsibility, and love for nature.

The event concluded with a group photograph, capturing the vibrant spirit, smiling faces, and memorable moments of the day. The celebration served as a reminder that small steps like planting a sapling can make a big difference in preserving the environment for generations to come.

Youth day celebrations at Derebail

The Youth Day was celebrated on 10th August 2025 during the YCS meeting, in the presence of the animators Mr. Gladson Monteiro, Mr. Rohan Monis, and Mrs. Jonita Monteiro.

The YCS members arrived dressed in shades of blue and yellow, symbolizing the vibrant spirit of youth. Cell-wise activities were conducted, creating a joyful and lively atmosphere. These activities not only enhanced the spirit of youthfulness among the members but also fostered teamwork, unity, and mutual understanding.

Strengthening Christian Faith: YCS Derebail Members Reflect with Br. Augustine

The YCS unit of Derebail organized a session on the Christian faith for all YCS members during their regular meeting. It was conducted in two parts on 20th and 27th July 2025, with Br. Augustine as the resource person. Give me better title n keep the report as it is Br. Augustine focused on the theme of faith, sharing his personal experiences of living as a Christian in North India. He also presented videos showcasing the lifestyle and churches in that region, helping the youth understand how faith is practiced in different parts of the country. To keep the sessions lively and engaging, he led action songs, which the youth thoroughly enjoyed. The sessions concluded with group discussions on the declining faith among youth, encouraging open sharing and reflection, and inspiring everyone to grow stronger in their spiritual journey.
