എഴുത്തുകാരൻ, നാടകഗവേഷകൻ, മന്ത്രവാദി എന്നീ നിലയിൽ പ്രശസ്തനായിരുന്നു കാട്ടുമാടം നാരായണൻ. നാടകത്തെക്കുറിച്ചും മന്ത്രവാദത്തെക്കുറിച്ചും ഗ്രന്ഥങ്ങളെഴുതിയിട്ടുണ്ട്. മലപ്പുറം ജില്ലയിലെ പൊന്നാനിക്ക് അടുത്ത് വന്നേരി എന്ന ഗ്രാമമാണ് ഇദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ സ്വദേശം.

History of Kattumadam mana traces back to the days
of Sage Parasurama who created Kerala and brought Nambudiris from outside Kerala and allocated various jobs to them in the society.
Katumadam was one of the families selected to look after the mental
health of the people. Later Kattumadam Nambudiris were made
Thantriks of many temples of Kerala, mostly in Malabar [16 in Vdakara, 2 in Koyilandy and 3 in Kannur].

The Kattumadam temple located in the compound has the main deity of Muthachiyamma. Other deities in the temple include Lord Shiva, Lord Krishna in the form of Vennakkannan, Narasimhamurthy, Lord Ganapathy and Lord Ayyappa. There is a big pond attached to the temple. Daily poojas are performed for these deities. Most of the days there will be special offerings by the worshippers. On the weekends Geetha classes are conducted at the temple premises.

Kattumadam Nambudiris are a family of Thantriks and Mantriks, especially famous in north Kerala. Originally from the district of Kannur the family has been relocated to Malappuram district with two branches, one at Vanneri [Moothedathu Kattumadam]and the other at Valancheri [Elayedathu Kattumadam]. The Kattumadam mana of the late duo of Kattumadam Narayanan Nambudiripad and Anil Nambudiripad is placed at Vanneri, a border town of Malappuram and Thrissur districts.
