Seeking Knowledge: A Duty for Every Muslim Woman
Islam gives great importance to the education of women. A Muslim woman is encouraged to seek beneficial knowledge so that she can worship Allah correctly, understand the Qur'an and Sunnah, raise her family upon Islamic values, and contribute positively to society.
The Prophet ﷺ said:
"Seeking knowledge is an obligation upon every Muslim."
This includes women just as it includes men. A woman should learn about her faith, prayer, purification, fasting, modesty, good manners, and her rights and responsibilities as a daughter, wife, mother, and member of the community.
Knowledge helps a woman make wise decisions, protect herself from ignorance and false beliefs, and become a source of guidance and goodness for her family. Throughout Islamic history, many women, such as Aisha bint Abu Bakr (رضي الله عنها), were respected scholars who taught the Qur'an, Hadith, and Islamic rulings to others.
A knowledgeable, righteous woman is a great blessing to her family and society, and seeking beneficial knowledge is an act of worship that brings a person closer to Allah.
