MISC Media Wing is the official page. but you will get all information from this page about the church. The Malabar Independent Syrian Church (MISC) (also known as Thozhiyoor Sabha) is known to be the first independent Malankara Syriac Orthodox Church that formed from the Universal Syrian Orthodox Church of Antioch. Aboon Hasyo Mor Gregorios (a hierarchal represe

ntative of the Universal Syriac Orthodox Church of Antioch) visited Kerala in 1772 and consecrated ramban (monk) Kattumangattu Kurian to the level of episcopo (bishop) and took the title Mor Koorilos Cyril I; this consecration was a result of a dispute with Mor Thoma VI (Archbishop of the Malankara Syriac Orthodox Church), Mor Dionysius I; the dispute was particularly between bishop Gregorios and Dionysius. The canonically legitimate consecration was done in secret which created more disputes with Dionysius thirumeni and the Malankara church; eventually Mor Koorilos Cyril I retreated to a town known as Thozhiyur and established the first independent Syriac Orthodox Church. After a court order in 1862, the church took the official title as the Malabar Independent Syrian Church and is locally known as Thozhiyur Sabha. Since this church was established, it has maintained a successive line of episcopos and even these bishops consecrated other bishops in the Malankara Church, particularly the Malankara Mar Thoma Syrian Church (an independent reformed church). The MISC remains as a purely Oriental Orthodox church under the Malankara umbrella, which continues to follow and maintain the West Syriac Orthodox (Antiochene) traditions, worship (St. James liturgy) and culture. The church is in full communion with the Mar Thoma Syrian Church; bishops from the MISC are always present during episcopo consecrations within the Mar Thoma Syrian Church and vice versa, but the MISC does not accept the reformed doctrines from the Mar Thoma church, this communion was created in the past due to endangerment of the episcopal lines within both of the churches; late Mar Thoma bishops H.G. Dr. Juhanon Mar Thoma and H.G. Dr. Alexander Mar Thoma were two bishops who came to MISC’s aid when it came to the need for consecration. One particular situation arose when the late Aboon Mor Philexenos Paulose joined with the Syro-Malankara Catholic church which left MISC without a head metraan, and it was the Mar Thoma Syrian Church (the late H.G. Dr. Alexander Mar Thoma) that consecrated late H.E. Aboon Mor Koorilose Mathews to fill the hierarchy. The current metropolitan of the MISC is H.E. Aboon Hasyo Mor Baselios Cyril I. MISC is relatively a small church but is slowly growing within the state of Kerala. We pray that all of the churches will unite as one. MISC Metropolitans of the past and present
