The Pare sthana Sri Bhagavathi Ali Chamundi kshetra which has history of long years has risen as one of the top shrines in North Kerala and South Karnataka for its all religion attention as here along with spirits of Bhagavathi and Chamundi, a Muslim spirit Ali is also worshiped. It is believed that years ago only Bhagavathi and Chamundi were the worshiped daivas of the shrine. According to the Ks
hetra Purana of the shrine years ago this place had a Muslim wizard Ali who was troubling people with his power and had become a social menace. So people prayed to the Bhagavathi goddess, then goddess Bhagavathi bequeathed her power in the form Chamundi and invited Ali to join her in Jalakreeda and defeated him, and then Ali pleaded her to spare his life. But since the Devi had determined to end his existence, she granted him a place among her entourage and made him her servant. Over the year the devotees of Bhagavati kshetra understood the powers Ali had during his life time and the transformation of his psyche and accepted him as a Daiva (bootha-spirit). From then Hindus and Muslims offer prayers to him and seek help from this Ali bootha. Once in a year the village gives Alibootha the Namothsava which is characterized by Paddanas and Kola. Thousands of Hindu-Muslims come during the nemothsava and offer Jasmine and Hen to Ali Bhoota and pray and it is strongly believed that the prayers are answered. By this belief of Ali Bhoota existence the place has turned out as the symbol of communal harmony. Bootha aradhane (spirit worship) is one of the ancient traditions in Coastal region, which holds communities together and preserve harmony. The belief and practice of Bhoota aradhane at Sri Bhagavathi Ali chamundi kshetra at Kumble in Kasargod district enrich the harmony between Hindu and Muslim communities.
