Bethlehem Church, Parampuzha is under Changanachery Metropolitan Archeparchy of syro-malabar church situated about five km northeast of Kottayam Town of central Travancore of Kerala. The Church is on a small hill then known as ‘ Mulamalakkunnu’.
124 Family Heads of ancient Parish of Kudamaloor who were residing at Parampuzha, Peroor Thellakom and Perumpaikadu areas had appealed to the then bishop
of Changanachery Mar Thomas Kurialachery to establish a new church at Parampuzha, as they felt that the parish church was far away from home to fulfill the spiritual responsibilities. By considering this Bishop has allowed them to construct a new church at Parampuzha. They could construct a small church, Holy Family as patron saint and consecrated on ‘Denaha’ Thirunal day of 1915 (06-January 1915). The bishop has appointed Fr Joseph Chothirakunnel as its first vicar. Present Church was built under the leadership of Rev. Fr. Sebastian Kalariparampil. The construction of church is in the memoirs of aged members of parish as that was a collective work of everyone i.e. Child to aged. The wall up to the roof and the facade is constructed with rock stones from church premises. New church was consecrated in 1950. This has a cross shape and was one of the biggest churches in this area. The Church celebrates combined thirunal of ‘Denaha’ (Feast of Baptism of Lord Jesus), Holy Family and St Sebastian on the Sunday after the ‘Denaha’. Parampuzha church Thirunal is famous for its ‘Raaza’(church-procession). Four Raazas from Parampuzha, Thellakom, Perumpaikadu and Peroor areas reach at same time at ‘Mammood Jn’ and moves to church as one. It symbolizes the communal harmony as the people from all religion participate in this Raaza with their kith and kin. Holy Family the patron never turns down the request of the needy. So many faithful gets the livelihood after appealing them through prayers.
