Beyond Time and Reason
India has long been called the land of mysteries - a place where history, spirituality, and daily life blur into a single, continuous story. To travel through India is not merely to move across geography but is to journey through time, belief, and the human spirit itself.
On the ghats of Varanasi, the Ganga glimmers with the first light of dawn. Pilgrims bathe in its sacred waters, priests chant ancient hymns, and funeral pyres burn steadily along the riverbanks. Here, life and death coexist without contradiction, since time eternal. To the outsider, it may appear paradoxical, but to the people of this ancient city, it is simply the rhythm of existence. In Varanasi, you learn the first secret of India - nothing truly ends, everything flows back into the whole! The air vibrates with chants, drums, and prayers, a chaotic harmony that overwhelms the senses yet centers the soul. Here, spirituality transcends doctrine and personal belief and it becomes a shared human experience. In that ocean of devotion, the eternal mysteries of life - birth, death, rebirth, and the quest for liberation are enacted in real time, making Kashi one of the greatest living expressions of faith on Earth!
Across the length and breadth of India, though hosting remarkable diversity, one theme remains constant - the divine is not a distant abstraction. It is alive, immediate, and intimately woven into the rhythm of human life. It reveals itself in celebration, in ritual, in art, and in the endless flow of devotion that connects each generation to the mysteries of the cosmos. India reveals itself not through simple answers, but through a richness of layers, experiences, and mysteries that invite awe, reflection, and wonder. It is a land where myth and history overlap, where science and spirituality coexist, and where chaos itself forms a subtle, living harmony.
To call India mysterious is not to imply that it hides secrets. It is to acknowledge that it reveals countless layers of truth, faith, and wonder, layers too intricate for any single lifetime to grasp in fully. And that, perhaps, is the greatest mystery of all!

Astronomy in Hinduism - The Sacred Embedding of Celestial Knowledge

Astronomy (Jyotisha) was not merely a scientific discipline in ancient India, but was a strict religious obligation. As one of the six Vedangas (limbs of the Vedas), Jyotisha provided the framework for fixing the times of rituals, determining festivals, and aligning human life with cosmic rhythms. Ancient Hindu Astronomy thus developed in a unique space where empirical observation, mathematical calculation, and spiritual symbolism overlapped. The Vedanga Jyotisha (c. 1200–800 BCE) is among the earliest extant texts on Indian Astronomy which details methods for determining lunar days (tithis), solstices, and the positions of the Moon relative to the 27 nakshatras (lunar mansions). The purpose of acquiring this knowledge was explicitly religious ensuring that yajnas (sacrificial rituals) were performed at cosmically appropriate times. Thus, Astronomy was integrated into the very performance of Vedic religion.
Hindu ritualistic lifestyle is basically inseparable from Astronomy. Months are based on the Moon’s phases, and festivals such as Diwali (new moon of Kartika) and Holi (full moon of Phalguna) are tied to lunar events. Agricultural and solar festivals, such as Makar Sankranti (Sun’s transition into Capricorn), are determined by the solar cycle and important ritual timings, e.g. Uttarayana and Dakshinayana that mark the Sun’s northward and southward movement are considered auspicious for yajnas. Hindu cosmology reflects both astronomical observation and metaphysical speculation like the Kalachakra (Wheel of Time) which is cyclic time measured in yugas (ages). A Mahayuga is 4.32 million years and a day of Brahma is 4.32 billion years. These vast timescales astonishingly echo modern cosmological ages. The Puranic cosmology says the universe is structured around Mount Meru, with planetary spheres revolving round it thus blending cosmography with theology into a concussion that indicates that Hora Shastra or Astrology remained inseparable from Astronomy in Hinduism. Hindu temples were structured based on cosmology like the Meenakshi Temple at Madurai where the alignment corresponds to the equinoxes and the Sun Temple at Konarak which is designed as a cosmic chariot aligned with solar motion. The Jantar Mantar (18th century) at Delhi and Jaipur are astronomical observatories that demonstrate the continuity of the sacred ancient Astronomy into the early modern period. Unlike in Greek or Chinese traditions where Astronomy and Astrology diverged, in Hinduism they remained unified under religious authority.
Ancient Hindu Astronomy was not a secular science separated from daily life, it was a sacred discipline. By embedding celestial knowledge into ritual calendars, temple architecture, deified planets, and cosmological myths, Hinduism ensured the survival and continuity of Astronomy as both a scientific as well as a spiritual pursuit. The heavens were read as both a cosmic scripture and a scientific phenomenon, making Jyotisha one of humanity’s longest continuous traditions of astronomical studies

Human Psychology: A Miracle with a Spiritual Essence

The human mind is not just a bundle of neurons and memories - it is a living bridge between the visible and the invisible. Psychology studies this bridge from the inside, while spirituality reminds us of the vastness that lies beyond.
Our emotions, desires, and fears are not random; they are signals from a deeper consciousness seeking expression. When we love, forgive, or awaken to truth, something extraordinary happens, the boundaries of the ego begin to dissolve, and the soul speaks through the language of the psyche.
Every conflict becomes a lesson in awareness. Every attachment is a mirror of the self’s hunger for wholeness. In this way, psychology becomes a sacred journey, not merely of analysis, but of transformation.
Spirituality, then, is not apart from psychology; it is its highest flowering - where understanding the mind becomes a doorway to understanding the divine.

Junk food induced Obesity - A Pandemic

Obesity has been declared as a pandemic that does not discriminate between age, gender and ethnicity and thus demands serious measures of containment and management.
As of today, people across boundaries, both children and adults, have embraced a lifestyle that has been metamorphosed to suit the new jet speed age and food is no exception to that. Over the last two decades there has been an alarming increase in the trend of consumption of fast food and sweetened beverages, globally, especially within school children and adolescents, with the growth rate of the fast food industry to be at an estimated 40 % per year, Joseph et al 2015. A pan India survey by Centre for Science and Environment conducted within 13,750 children aged 8 - 15 years reported that 93% children ate packaged food and 68% consumed packaged sweetened beverages atleast once in a week and more than 50% consumed both once in a day.
Fast food, typically is high in simple carbohydrates, high in fats, high in saturated and trans fats, high in sugar and high in sodium, all of which has direct adverse effects on the digestive system, cardiovascular system, respiratory system, nervous system, integumentary system and also on the reproductive system of an individual. Fast food consumption is highly associated to weight gain and Obesity. Mostly consumed fast foods are bakery products, beverages, caffeinated drinks, burgers, chips, chocolates, pizza etc. and all of these are loaded with those extra and really extra amount of calories that accumulate in your body, setting up the perfect platform for you to be at cardiometabolic risk along with behavioral symptoms. As such there is immense need to overcome an addiction to fast food and shift the dietary habits into more of real food. Mass awareness at grass root levels starting from self help and extending upto the greater community, with special emphasis on children, about the adverse effects of junk food on the organ system is a priority need of the hour. There can not be a better time than now to build up supportive environments promoting good health and disease free living.

Diabesity - A complex relationship between Diabetes Mellitus and Obesity

Diabesity is not an official diagnosis but refers to a patient having both Diabetes Mellitus and Obesity and together these closely related conditions greatly increases the risk of heart diseases, a major cause of death in the country.
Body Mass Index has a strong relationship to Diabetes and Insulin resistance. In obese individuals, the amount of nonesterified fatty acids, glycerol, hormones, cytokines, proinflammatory markers, and other substances that are involved in the development of insulin resistance, is increased. The pathogenesis in the development of diabetes is based on the fact that the β-islet cells of the pancreas are impaired, causing a lack of control of blood glucose. The development of diabetes becomes more inevitable if the failure of β-islet cells of the pancreas is accompanied by insulin resistance. Weight gain and body mass are central to the formation and rising incidence of type 1 and type 2 diabetes. This review will demonstrate the facts that link obesity with insulin resistance and pancreatic β-cell dysfunction.
Obesity is linked to many medical, psychological, and social conditions, the most devastating of which may be type 2 diabetes. At the start of this century, 171 million people were estimated to have type 2 diabetes, and this figure is expected to increase to 360 million by 2030.
Both type 2 diabetes and obesity are associated with insulin resistance. Most obese individuals, despite being insulin resistant, do not develop hyperglycemia. Pancreatic β-cells of the islet of Langerhans release adequate amounts of insulin that are sufficient to overcome insulin level reductions under normal circumstances, thus maintaining normal glucose tolerance.
Throughout the natural history of type 2 diabetes, endothelial dysfunction is accompanied with obesity/insulin resistance in diabetes and prediabetes conditions (this includes people with impaired glucose tolerance and/or impaired fasting glucose). In order to develop insulin resistance and obesity, thereby causing type 2 diabetes, β-cells should not be able to compensate fully for decreased insulin sensitivity. The nonesterified fatty acids (NEFAs) that are secreted from adipose tissue in obese people may lead to the hypothesis that insulin resistance and β-cell dysfunction are most likely linked.
Both obesity and diabetes mellitus are important independent risk factors for the development of cardiovascular diseases. Obesity is the leading risk factor for type 2 diabetes. Women with a body mass index (BMI) of 30 kg/m2 have a 28 times greater risk of developing diabetes than do women of normal weight. The risk of diabetes is 93 times greater if the BMI is 35 kg/m2. The presence of diabetes can increase a woman's risk of heart disease by 2-fold. In addition, the presence of diabetes overshadows the protective effects of the premenopausal state. The national prevalence rates of diabetes have increased in parallel with the rates of obesity.
Since excess fat worsens diabetes, losing weight can greatly improve the condition. When you have diabesity, you may start with one medication to get the pancreas to produce enough insulin. But very soon and much earlier, you need two or more medicines for diabetes. But if you lose weight, you may do fine with just one medication or even go off medication entirely. Losing as little as 5% to 10% of your overall body weight can greatly improve Type 2 diabetes. The first treatment goal for diabesity is to get to and maintain a healthy weight along with eating a low-carb diet. Changing your diet and increasing exercise to lose weight can be challenging. But the hard work is worth it to avoid serious complications of uncontrolled diabetes like heart disease, kidney failure and nerve damage

Human Psychology and Spirituality: The Bridge Between Mind and Soul

Human beings are complex creations of nature, a blend of intellect, emotion, and consciousness. Psychology explores the mind, behavior, and emotions that shape human life, while spirituality seeks to understand the deeper essence of existence, the part of us that transcends thoughts and matter. Though they appear different, psychology and spirituality are two sides of the same coin, each helping us understand who we truly are.
Psychology is the scientific study of the human mind and behavior. It examines how people think, feel, and act, both individually and collectively. From Freud’s psychoanalysis to modern cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), psychology has evolved to uncover the layers of human consciousness - conscious, subconscious, and unconscious. Cognitive psychology explores how we perceive and process information, Behavioral psychology studies the impact of environment and conditioning and Humanistic psychology emphasizes self actualization and personal growth.
While psychology helps individuals manage emotions, relationships, and behavior, it often focuses on the external and measurable aspects of the human experiences. Spirituality, on the other hand, delves into the inner world. It is not bound by religion but rather centers around the search for meaning, purpose, and connection with oneself, others, nature, and the universe. Spiritual practices like meditation, mindfulness, and prayer help individuals transcend ego and experience higher states of consciousness. They cultivate virtues such as compassion, forgiveness, and gratitude that are essential elements for mental peace.
Modern psychology increasingly acknowledges the value of spirituality in mental health and well being. Researchers and therapists now recognize that spiritual beliefs and practices can reduce anxiety, depression, and stress, improve emotional resilience and foster empathy and altruism
Carl Jung, one of the most influential psychologists, believed that psychological healing is incomplete without spiritual integration. He described the "Self" as the union of the conscious and the divine unconscious, a concept that parallels many Eastern philosophies.
In India, ancient systems like Yoga and Ayurveda have long taught that the mind (Manas), intellect (Buddhi), and soul (Atman) must remain in harmony for total health.
In today’s fast paced world, mental distress, burnout, and loneliness are rising. Integrating spiritual practices into psychological healing can bring balance like mindfulness and meditation can calm the mind and improve focus, affirmations and gratitudes reprogram negative thinking, self reflection and journaling promote self awareness and acts of service nurture a sense of purpose and connection. Such integrations transform inner chaos into clarity, fear into faith, and confusion into consciousness.
Human psychology helps us understand how we think and behave, while spirituality helps us to understand why. Together, they offer a complete framework for human growth, a journey from self knowledge to self realization. When science of the mind and wisdom of the soul walk hand in hand, true healing and happiness becomes possible
