You thought Lord Hanuman’s birth story was just another tale of divine intervention, right? Wrong! Let me take you to an era before Lord Hanuman was even born.

His mother, Anjana, wasn’t always a devoted, pious figure. In fact, she was once an apsara named Pujikasala, and her biggest crime? She walked in front of Rishi Durvasa, the most irritable sage in existence. And as you can imagine, the moment Durvasa got distracted by Pujikasala’s beauty, all hell broke loose. He cursed her to be born on Earth, and not just any Earthly existence but as a monkey.

Yeah, you heard that right. So, if you thought being born as a human was tough, try being born as a monkey because of a sage’s curse.

But don’t worry, Anjana (now a devoted tapasvi) gave birth to Lord Hanuman, who would later go on to make us all feel utterly insignificant with his feats of strength and devotion.

Moral of the Story: Never walk in front of an angry sage you might end up giving birth to a deity.

Composed by Sri Vallabhacharya in 1478 A.D, the Madhurashtakam is a stotra that describes the sweetness of the great Lord Krishna whose influence is spread across the world. According to Hindu mythology, Lord Krishna is believed to be the incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Worshipping and pleasing Lord Krishna can bring beauty, wealth and prosperity in life. Madhurashtakam was originally written in Sanskrit and is easy to understand. The verse uses the word ‘Madhuram’ extensively to describe the beautiful aspects of Lord Krishna and his lovely form.
