Revelations with Laughter
On December 3rd, 1955, Pujya Gurudev began his 15th Jnana Yajna in Kolkata — an event that would shape the Chinmaya Movement itself and lay the foundation for what we proudly celebrate today as 70 years of Chinmaya Movement in Kolkata.
Sri G.M. Khemka beautifully described these Yajnas as a sacred offering of our ignorance into the Fire of Knowledge, calling Gurudev’s talks “a treat to the faithful, a challenge to the non-believer, and an irresistible call to the intelligent.”
For eighteen days, Gurudev brought the profound Ishavasya Upanishad alive with simplicity, clarity, and humour. His famous “ghost in the post” example had the entire audience laughing while seeing Truth with new eyes. From avidya to vidya, from the senses to the All-pervading Reality — His words transformed hearts across Calcutta.
Shri Sampath Iyengar summed it up perfectly:
“Swamiji excels in convincing the thinking mind — with lucidity, logic, and a perfect blend of the old and the new.”
A historic moment. A timeless message.
A Master who changed the way the world understands Vedanta — and the inspiration behind 70 years of service in Kolkata. 🙏
