In response to a news report published today, August 14, 2026, both in the print edition of The Times of India and on its website titled "Deshapriya Park Durga Puja caught in control dispute" our committee has formally written to the Editor-in-Chief requesting an immediate clarification and rejoinder.
The report erroneously attributed certain political statements and allegations to our committee members.
We wish to unequivocally inform all devotees, well-wishers, media houses, and the general public that no such statement or allegation was ever made by any representative or member of Ballygunge Sarbojanin Durgotsab Samity.
For 88 glorious years, since 1938, Ballygunge Sarbojanin Durgotsab Samity has remained steadfastly committed to its rich legacy of celebrating Durga Puja together as a unified community.
Our festival has always been a space of harmony, spiritual devotion, and cultural heritage, welcoming everyone without any distinction, discrimination, or political alignment.
Attributing political motives or statements to our committee creates unnecessary misconceptions among the public and undermines our decades-long stance of absolute neutrality and inclusivity.
We have shared our formal communication sent to The Times of India editorial team to set the record straight and ensure responsible reporting.
We remain deeply grateful to our community members and well-wishers for their unwavering faith and support as we hope to start our halted preparations to celebrate our 89th year with the same dignity, harmony, and grand tradition that Deshapriya Park is cherished for.
