📖 WILLIAM CAREY — A STORY OF FAITH, VISION & TRANSFORMATION 🇮🇳✝️

An ordinary shoemaker from England…

A poor young man with no great wealth, power, or political position.

But he had a great desire to serve God.

His name was William Carey.

Born on 17 August 1761, Carey came to India in 1793. He faced many difficulties—financial struggles, language barriers, cultural differences, health problems, and opposition.

But he did not give up.

He learned Bengali, worked in Bible translation, promoted education, supported printing and publishing, and became closely connected with the historic work at Serampore.

Together with Joshua Marshman and William Ward, he became part of what is known as the “Serampore Trio.”

Carey’s life was not without suffering. In 1812, a devastating fire destroyed much of the Serampore Mission Press, including valuable manuscripts and books.

Yet he started again.

William Carey died on 9 June 1834 in Serampore, but his legacy continued through translation, education, printing, and Christian missionary work.

His life reminds us:

“Expect great things from God; attempt great things for God.”
