*ALL THAT GLITTERS IS NOT FROM GOD*
*The Gold and Silver Dust Appearances: A Biblical Refutation*
-*What Some Leaders Claim*
Many modern leaders claim that during worship, gold or silver dust miraculously appears. They interpret this as a sign of God’s glory or anointing. Sometimes, they also claim that feathers, jewels, or fragrances manifest supernaturally. These phenomena are then used to validate supposed special revelations or spiritual power.
*But what does the Bible actually teach?*
*What Does the Bible Say?*
*1. No Biblical Evidence for Such Manifestations*
There is no instance in Scripture—whether in the Tabernacle, the Temple, the Book of Acts, or the Epistles—where gold or silver dust falls during worship. Even in profound encounters with God (Isaiah 6; Revelation 4; Acts 2), no such physical dust or glitter appears.
Isaiah 6:5; Luke 5:8 – God's presence in Scripture leads to conviction of sin, not sensational spectacles.
2 Timothy 3:16–17 – Scripture is fully sufficient to equip the man of God for every good work.
-We do not need gold dust to supplement the Word.
*2. Deceptive Signs Are Warned Against*
2 Thessalonians 2:9–10 – “...with all power and false signs and wonders…”
The Bible warns that false teachers may use signs and wonders to deceive. These signs may appear spiritual, but they often glorify the personality of the preacher rather than the person of Christ.
Matthew 24:24 – “False christs and false prophets will arise and perform great signs and wonders to lead astray, if possible, even the elect.”
*3. Biblical Worship Is Grounded in Word and Ordinaces — Not Mystical Experiences*
John 4:24 – “Worship in Spirit and in truth.”
True worship is rooted in the truth of Scripture, not in subjective or mystical experiences. The New Testament church did not pursue glitter or spectacle, but focused on Christ crucified.
*4. The Glory of God Is Not Glitter*
In the Bible, the glory of God:
*Causes people to fall in awe and reverence (Ezekiel 1:28; Revelation 1:17)*
*Produces repentance and fear of the Lord (Isaiah 6:5)*
*Is supremely revealed in Jesus Christ (John 1:14)*
2 Corinthians 4:6 – “The light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.”
- Not in gold dust, feathers, or gemstones.
*5. Christ Is Our Treasure — Not Gold Dust*
Colossians 2:3 – “In Christ are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.”
Hebrews 1:1–2 – “God has spoken to us by His Son.”
Christ is the final and full revelation of God. To seek new physical signs like glitter and feathers is to doubt the sufficiency of Christ and the Word.
*Spiritual Dangers of These Claims*
Here are the serious dangers of associating gold or silver dust with divine presence:
*Claim: Gold dust = God’s presence*
-This falsely reduces God's spiritual presence to a material spectacle.
*Biblical truth: God’s presence is spiritual*
-He dwells in His people by the Holy Spirit, not through external manifestations.
*It elevates human experience*
-It gives more authority to emotions and feelings than to Scripture.
*It undermines Sola Scriptura*
-It implies that God’s Word is not enough without extra signs.
*It distracts from the gospel*
- It turns our attention from Christ crucified to glitter and glamor.
*It shifts the focus from Christ to signs and Self*
-People seek miracles instead of seeking the Savior.
*It encourages idolatry of the spectacular*
-Worship becomes centered around wonder, not God.
*It promotes immature or false faith*
-Faith becomes built on sensations, not on sound doctrine.
*How Should Churches Respond?*
*Teach the sufficiency of Scripture*
-Sola Scriptura means God’s Word is enough; we need no new signs.
*Expose deception*
-Lovingly but firmly point people back to the Bible, not feelings.
*Promote Christ-centered worship*
-Not entertainment or emotional hype, but reverence and truth.
*Warn against spiritual manipulation*
–Remind the church that false signs often serve false teachers.
*Emphasize holiness over hype*
-True revival is marked by repentance, not spectacle.
*The claims of gold and silver dust "miracles" have no foundation in Scripture, no evidence of the Spirit, and no place in the church.*
*True glory is found not in glitter, but in the cross of Christ, in knowing God, and in studying His Word.*
Let us worship in truth and reverence, and faithfully contend for the faith once delivered to the saints (Jude 3).
