In Gospel of Luke chapter 16 the story of the rich man and Lazarus is a parable. It is not a real historical event. The Jewish historian Josephus records the identity of the five brothers.

The five brothers are the five brothers of Caiaphas the high priest.
This is a key to interpretation of the parable. The parable mocks the false teachings of the Jews. Death is dead in the Bible. There is no work in the grave.

Jesus is the son of God. But Jesus is not God himself. Jesus is the descendant of his ancestor King David. Abraham foresaw Jesus. But Jesus did not exist before Abraham. The doctrine of the Trinity is not in the Bible.

The Bible shows that Satan is a picture lesson. The devil is not a real person. The Bible says there are no spirits of the gods of nations. Our understanding should be based on important facts found in the unlimited power of the only God.

The scripture says that after death people do not go to heaven. The dead sleep in the grave. When Jesus comes back into this world, he will raise the dead from their sleep.
