Someone refused to send their child to our church because we didn't have a cross atop the church; and that is exactly why we don't want any religious symbol. There's a good chance symbols will take the place of spirituality and that's how many have their religions. The consideration that symbolic articles are holy can take the place of our own need for holiness. Once I attended a church for the first time and I was so disappointed to see a wooden cross placed before the pulpit with a red cloth wrapped around it, and the Pastor invited the people to come forward and kneel before the cross. I don't see anything different from idol worship here. Praise be to God.
