George Mar Thoma Church, Fort Cochin is the first parish of the Mar Thoma Church in Cochin. Prior to 1913, twelve Mar Thoma Families came to Kochi from different parts of erstwhile Travancore seeking employment opportunities or business.. They gathered at different houses, schools and other places of convenience for prayer and fellowship. Because of their faithful prayer and zeal of worship, in 19
13 a Mar Thoma Paarish came into being with twelve families. Omasseril Varghese kassessa served as the first vicar of the parish. The present membership is 132 families. In 1949, the parish obtained 23 ½ cents of land where the present church exists. The church building was constructed and dedicated on 6th may 1950. 15 cents of land adjacent to the church was purchased and a parsonage was constructed in the year 1993. The parish obtained 3 cents of land at Thoppumpady in the year 1973 and the Sunday School Mandiram was built in the year 1980, and it was renovated in the year 2011. As a part of its 100 years of glorious existence, the church celebrated its Centenary Celebration in 2013. The present Church Building is renovated and dedicated on 24th Nov' 2013. Now the St.George Mar Thoma Church is a full fledged parish with all auxiliary units, such as, Sunday schools, Youth League, Sevikasangam, Edavaka Mission, Choir and Senior Citizens Fellowship.
