DAKSHINA MOOKAMBIKA TEMPLE IS UNIQUE IN MANY RESPECTS. THE BEAUTIFULLY CONSTRUCTED SANCTUM SANCTORUM - SREEKOVIL- IS IN THE MIDDLE OF A LOTUS POND (PATHMA THEERTHAM) ITSELF BEARS A DISTINCTIVENESS. A concrete bridge takes the

devotees to the Sreekovil Nada where they can offer their prayers. The Pathmatheertham around the Sreekovil is always full of water and is well maintained. After offering prayers, devotees cross another bridge taking them to the southern side of the Pathmatheertham. Temple pradakshina is done circling around the Pathmatheertham. Kanni moola GANAPATHY is at the south-west corner of the Pathmatheertham. Shrines of Lord Subrahmanya, Lord Krishna, Lord Hanuman and Lord Veerabhadran are at the four corners of the temple ground. A shrine devoted to Yakshi is also at the south-west corner. Besides this, a Ganapathy temple is situated near the large temple pond. HISTORY

Paravur Thampuran, a strong devotee of Goddess Saraswathy, was a frequenter of Kollur Mookambika Temple. When ill health made him unable to make journeys, ailing Thampuran prayed to the Goddess for blessing to construct a Saraswathy Temple at Paravur. Thus this temple was built about 400 years ago. This is the only Saraswathy Temple in Kerala under the Travancore Dewaswom Board. OFFERINGS

"Sree Vidhya Manthra Pushpaanjali" , "Saraswathy Pooja", and "Mookambika Kashayam" are the most important offerings in this temple. Mookambika Kashayam , prepared with herbs in traditional manner is considered as a sacred medicine to enhance wisdom. FESTIVAL

The Navarathri Mandapam become alive with classical concerts during Navarathri days. Nine days of dance and music make the Navarathri fest a glorious celebration. It is in the month of "Kanni" (September-October). Mostly small children's Arangettams - the debut performances - are conducted here then. Thousands of devotees throng the temple these days. Small children are initiated into the world of learning on the "Vidhyarambha Mandapam" of the temple on the Vijayadasami day. Apart from the Navarathri Festisval, the 10 day Annual Festival is celebrated in the month of Makaram (January-February)
