Adieu dear Bishop Dominic Kokkatu CST!

A Theresian Farewell to a Shepherd of the Little Way

Most Rev. Bishop Dominic Kokkat CST has gently passed from this world into the loving embrace of the God he trusted with a childlike heart. His life was not marked by noise or self-display, but by the quiet strength of fidelity—so deeply Theresian in spirit.

Like St. Thérèse of the Child Jesus, whom he loved and followed, Bishop Dominic believed that holiness is found not in extraordinary deeds, but in doing ordinary things with extraordinary love. His episcopal ministry was a living commentary on the Little Way: patient listening, hidden sacrifices, gentle words, and a heart totally abandoned to Divine Providence.

As a son of the Little Flower Congregation, he carried the fragrance of Christ wherever he was sent. He sowed countless small seeds of love—many unseen, many unacknowledged—but all precious in the eyes of God. He trusted that even the smallest act, when offered with love, could change the world.

As a shepherd, he walked with his people, often choosing the path of humility over recognition, silence over argument, mercy over judgment. In moments of trial and misunderstanding, he remained steadfast, believing—as Thérèse did—that “everything is grace.” His suffering, borne quietly, became a prayer; his weakness, a place where God’s strength was revealed.

Now his earthly pilgrimage is complete. The one who taught us to love in small ways has entered the eternal joy promised to those who trust like children. We believe that, true to his Theresian heart, he will continue his mission from heaven—spending his heaven doing good on earth, interceding for the Church, the Congregation, the Eparchy of Gorakhpur and all whom he loved.

We entrust him to the merciful arms of the Father, confident that the Little Flower has led him home.
