A solace for those who are thrown to the outskirts of the society, cut off from the near and dear, wanderers, sick, mentally challenged, weak, helpless and isolated from the mainstream. This project was mainly aimed at assisting those who have no dear and near ones and who are suffering for various reasons, rejected and unwanted by the society. Presently these ashrams are giving shelter to hundred
s of unwanted human beings who suffer due to deformation in body and mind. A small seed that was planted at Kattappana, India in 1996 sprouted and grew to a big tree that has branches spread out to places like Nariyanpara, Kumily, Thopramkudy, Nedumkandam, Moolamattam in Kerala and Theni in Tamilnadu. These Snehasrams are giving shelter, food and medicine to thousands of people in two States. Snehasram remains as a big family, giving shelter, rehabilitation and support for the poor people. One can see people in different centres’ of Snehsrams with no address, mentally ill, rejected by the society, women brutally exploited by others, old people and street children etc. By accepting these people as god’s children, as our brothers and by giving shelter and accommodation to them, we proclaim to the world about the glory and value of man. To a great extend, the society is responsible for making these people as criminals and drunkards. Every human being is a precious gif of god. So in fact it is not a service that we ender more than it is our responsibility to take care our fellow human beings those who are broken and abandoned. Once they are loved and their basic needs are met, we see the wonder that happens in them. In my life at Kattappana as a member of Porticuncula ashram, I had dream for my life. Living with and working for these last, least and lost of the society.
