Christ Church, Kasauli, standing tall since the 19th century, reflects the charm of British-era architecture. In front, the vintage sundial, likely installed in the 1880s, served as a tool for calibrating the tower clock. Bathed in the warm morning sunlight, this peaceful spot offers a glimpse into the town’s rich history and timeless beauty. A perfect harmony of stone, shadow, and greenery that captures the essence of Kasauli’s heritage.

Happy 179th Foundation Day of Christ Church Kasauli⛪💒
The development of Kasauli began in 1841, and is attributed to Sir Henry Lawrence, after the death of her daughter in Subathu. Christ Church Kasauli came into existence in 1844 when Dr. Daniel Wilson (the great Metropolitan Bishop of Calcutta) appointed Rev MJ Jennings a chaplain to the new station Kasauli for the 1st time in March 1844 who started worship services in barracks as there was no church building.
In the end of October 1844 Dr. Wilson, the Bishop of Calcutta paid his 1st visitation of Kasauli and on 26th October 1844 laid the foundation stone of future Christ Church. For the construction of the Church building it took near about nine years. In these nine years many missionaries came but the contribution of M.J. Jennings, Rev Spry, Rev. Parker (Principal of Lawrence School Sanawar) and Rev Thomas John Edward Steel, were remarkable, who raised funds from different resources for the Christ Church Kasauli.
On 24th July 1853 the roof of the church was completed and on that day the church was used for the worship services for 1st time.
In 1857 Christ Church was consecrated by Dr. Thomas Dualtry Bishop of Madras by letters Dimissory from the metropolitan Bishop of Calcutta, Dr Lynch.
By the time, bit by bit the church was beautified. Stained window glasses have been imported from London depicting Christ, Mary, Saint Barnabas and Saint Francis. In early 1880s the church tower was raised and the public clock was placed by importing the same from W.H. Bailey & Co of Manchester, England. A sundial was also installed in church compound at the same time, probably for the calibration of dials of the clock. After remaining in hibernation for many decades, this Tower Clock restored in 2015. Clock still works on original weight driven mechanical gear assembly and now in Limca book of records.
