HISTORY OF DHARMAPURI TEMPLE:
The Temple is situated in the Jagityal Dist. On the Southern Bank of the sacred river Godavari, Dharmapuri also called as ‘Dakshin

a Kashi’ is famous one of the nine Narasimha Kshetras of the Telangana & Andhra Pradesh. The temple town is sanctified by the Saikatha linga (Sand Linga) said to have been installed by Lord Sri Rama During his journey to Dandakaranya. There is a blend of Shaiva and Vaishnava culture, where people make no destination between Lord Shiva and Vishnu. Having Lord Narasimha, Sri Ramalingeshwara Temples and a mosque side by side, it is surviving testimony of unity and integrity of Muslim and Hindus. The importance of Keshtra is revealed in the life histories of King Dharmavarma, princess Savitri and Dharmangada. References have been made of this historical city in epics and many a literary works it was mentioned as ‘Dharmapura’ in Skandha and Brahmanda Puranas, Dharmapuri during Budhist period Dharmaram in Dekkala Banda inscription of the Rashtrakutas. Pothanamathya, Korvi Goparaju, Padmapurana of Madiki Singana, Kalapurnodayam by Pingali Surana, beside three Shathakas Narasimha, Narahari and Nrukesari composed by the well known poet of the place Sheshachala Dasu some two centuries ago, which are by any yardsticks the best in the entire Shathaka history in the Telugu Literature. It flourished during the time of Jainism and Buddhism. Historical evidences shows that it was under the rule of Hindu Kings, such as Badami Chalukyas, Rashtrakutas and the recharla velmas witnessing the ups and downs of various by nosties. Having such mythological and historical importance, Dharmapuri hosts holy Shrine ness of Lord Narasimha with Laxmi, Shiva, Venkateshwara, Gouthameshwara, Anjaneya, Sri Rama, Datthathreya and Sathyavathi besides Brahma Pushkarini are the main Temples. Dharmapuri is dotted with a number of temples connected by the RTC roots and attracting a host of pilgrims it is a center for Vedas, Shastras, Puranas, Fine Arts and Poets, like Cherikonda Dharmana, Krishnagiri Venkatagiri and Sheshappa, flourished here. The eligent handy work sculptures is very much evident in making of idols here sculptures belonging to the Chalukya period are found in the Ramalingeshwara Swamy Temple inscriptions describing the stories of Mahabharatha and Ramayana are found in the Main Temple. The center was able to preserve it’s past glory despite the on slought by Muslim dynasties under Aurangazeb period. Now all the temples are renovating by the endowments department and devotees. The Brahmothsvas will be celebrated 13 days starting from Phalguna Shudha Ekadhashi and Narasimha Navarathrothsavams are being performed by Vyshakha Shudha Shashti to Chaturdhashi.
