Sri Neeliyathakathoot Peringoth Temple is owned by Neeliyathakathoot Kshetra Samuchaya Trust, Mundayad, Kannur-670006. The original temple was destroyed in Tipu's Malabar invasion in the 17th Century. Subsequently
, the temple land was also lost to a member of the Muslim community. The temple land was purchased by the Trust on 27th April, 1992 and the temple construction was begun after a detailed consultation in " Ashtamangalya Swarnaprashnam". The " Prana Prathishta" of the temple was done on 27th April , 1995. This ancient shrine was a Vishnu temple.Besides Kirathamoorthy bhava of Lord Shiva's beloved son Vettakkoru Makan, avathara of Vishnu's Urpazhassi Devas have been installed in the same roopa and bhava in one and the same sanctum sanctorum. These deities are known as "Shankaranarayana". Maha Vishnu`s complete presence is in the form of " Salagrama" and whose chief offering is "Valiyavattalom Palpayasam". Lord Urpazhassi 's and Lord Vettakkoru makan 's chief pooja offerings are " Kalamezhuth", "Pattu", "Thengamuttu"( coconut breaking) and " oottu". While serving Oottu ( food) the Gods presence is totally present in the oottupura. Hence the authorities give special care and respect to the devotees during "Annadanam". Another special Vazhipadu is " Mrithunjaya Homam". Devotees book this vazhipadu in advance, usually for a year, which will be performed on the monthly star day of the devotee. The temple is surrounded with " Chamatha" trees (Butea monosperma ) ( Palash in Hindi) which is widely used for Agnihotra or fire ritual and is chiefly found in "Yaga" bhoomi. Visitors to the temple specially mention the positive energy surrounding the temple and the immense soothing effect it gives to their mind. The annual temple celebaration fall in the month of April on the days 25th,26th,27th ( Medam 12,13,14). On all the three days, three times in a day special sumptuous food is served. On the 27th of every month special " Thrikaala Pooja" with "Annadaanam" is offered.
