The month of May is going quickly and exam time is upon us. Each year we have both oral and written exams on topics of Buddhist philosophy and Tibetan grammar as well as an exam on debate where we test our learning of logics and epistemology.

We actually enjoy putting our knowledge to the test and see how much we've learned before the end of the term and the holidays in June.

We had the good fortune of receiving Stagna Rinpoche today in the Nunnery. It was the first time he visited DGL so Rinpoche took his time to look at all the details in our temple and did a nice tour around the nunnery.

We’re very lucky and happy to meet such lovely Lamas of the Drukpa Kagyu lineage.

Last week, the nuns who prepare the tormas (གཏོར་མ, wylie: gtor ma), which are cakes or sculptures used as ritual offerings in Tibetan Buddhism, were hard at working making these amazing creations for our Protector Temple. These tormas are very particular and for that reason we recruited the help of some of the monks from Tashi Jong, Khampagar Monastery to help us make them.

We are very fortunate to have very talented and capable nuns and also very helpful monks who collaborate with us in these tasks.

May these offerings multiply infinitely and may all beings benefit. 🙏

At the initiative of our wonderful Gen Drimey Sherab, we hosted the very first Weekend Quiz Competition. As with everything meritorious, we started the event with some aspirational prayers. Then six teams were formed and they had to answer questions in various modalities in each round. Genla prepared around 60 questions for this first event. It was a really interesting and new way to learn and test our knowledge. We look forward to doing this again in the future!

We're happy to let you know that we have recieved and distributed new quilts/duvets for the nuns. Each one received a brand new duvet along with two covers.

The only reason we can do something like this, is thanks to our wonderful and kind sponsors, so we would like to use the opportunity to thank you from the bottom of our heart for your generosity. 🙏

May all beings be well and happy.

Thanks to our dear sister Marianne and her expert friend Marcus, we have officially started our exercise regime. The nun's committee had decided that, in order to take care of our bodies as well as our minds, all the nuns should do some physical exercise at least 3 times a week. Some of these things are difficult and uncomfortable! But we still do them in order to stay healthy and be able to benefit all sentient beings. Ultimately, we do have lots of fun with it. May everyone be well, happy and healthy! 🙏

Meet the furry members of our community 🥰🐾

Apart from all the nuns, we also have a number of four-legged family members living with us (and probably many with six, eight or zero legs that we don't know about). We would like to introduce you to them.

Tashi: Our sweet white and black dog came to us as a puppy when someone basically threw her and her sister over the nunnery wall in 2019. Since then, they've both been part of our family. She's a laid-back dog who loves belly rubs.

Sangye: This elegant brown tabby is a little reserved, apart from a select few nuns who she adores. For the rest of us, Her Majesty might grace us with a rare cuddle on her schedule, making us feel very lucky.

Apu: In the nunnery, we sometimes hear civets on the roof at night, but we rarely see them. Apart from Apu who we found when she was small enough to fit in a hand, and her mother unfortunately had died. One of our teachers took her in and bottle-fed her, and Apu now sees her as her mama and lives with her in the teachers' quarters - sleeping at day and roaming our roofs at night.

Dorje: This orange dog was a stray that just walked into the nunnery one day and decided he lives here now. We all immediately recognised that he is a very good boy, but since we had two dogs already, we initially decided to send him away, but it was too late - our office staff had already fallen in love and insisted on adopting him. So Dorje is now the official office dog of DGL.

Tsomo: You can' really see it because they look different in size, colour and everything else, but Tsomo is Tashi's sister. She is much smaller and much less low-key, often barking and jumping around but always wagging her tail. She has a big interest in snacks.

Simba: The orange cat with the secret life. He lives with the nunnery cook and her family, but we don't see him around much. What exactly he does, we don't know... but judging from his scars, he has been busy protecting the nunnery from intruders.

We love our animal friends
