This Sarpakavu is believed to be almost 1500 years old with the Prathishta of Nagaraja Vasuki and Naaga Yakshy and Brahma Rakshas.According to the deva prasna conducted by learned astrologers,it is found that the Naga raja and Naga Yakshy are present there facing Ernakulathappan, Ernakulam Siva Temple, Ernakulam Dist. It is the only idol of Vasuki in Ernakulam Dist. Devotees from all
over Kerala make it a point to visit this Sarpakavu daily especially on Ayilliam day. This Sarpakavu consists of a beautiful pond and the typical kerala style “Naalu kettu” surrounded by trees and shrubs giving the place a peaceful serene atmosphere charged with the divine presence of the naaga raja amd naaga yakshi and living snakes. History says that this sarpakavu along with the pond and naalukettu was an offering of His Highness Kochi Raja to one of the ancestors of Kuthupara family.The present caretaker of this Sarpakavu is Sri.K.K.Viswam State Secetary, Kerala Sarpakavu Smarakshana Samithi, Kodungoor, Kottayam, (Regn No 421/2008) maintains it with utter dedication and preserves the ancient glory,divinity and sanctity by conducting the poojas and rituals as ordained in traditional Naagapooja.. Many of the devotees who worshipped the Naagarja here for three Aayilya poojas were granted their wishes and blessed by the Naagas.Many devotees vouch that their wishes were granted within 90 days of prayers to the Naagaraja here. According to astrology,Rahu/ketu placed in Lagnam,2nd house,4th house,7th house and 12th house will bring many problems of sorrow and disease and Kaalsarpa yoga is a very powerful dosha which can be neutralized by performing Naagapooja only.Since Raahu/ketu has direct relevance to marriage,progeny,skin problems and mental disorders,it is imperative that sarpa pooja,sarpabali,noorum paalum vazhipad have to be done with utmost dedication and purity.
