Chapter 11: First Initiation
♥
On returning to Karachi, I met Swami Govindanandji. In the Kamagatamaru case he was awarded the death penalty. But on appeal, he got life imprisonment. Not only that he was banished to Andamans. After many years of suffering in Andamans he finally returned to Karachi.
Bhagat Singh and his colleagues , had established the Young India Movement in Lahore. The Karachi chapter of this movement was headed by Swami Govindanandji.
Swamiji's sacrifices, renunciation, and thoughts had a profound effect on me. I took him as my Guru. In reality he became my political guru. One who shaped by political ideals. I met my spiritual guru many years later. It has been described in later chapters.
Swami Govindanandji gave me deeksha (Ordination) and changed my name from Fateh Raj Purohit to Swami Harihar. After Swami Govindanandji, there was talk of making me the head of Youth India Movement. I told them that, since I was a sanyasi now, I could not do things that I did when I had not been ordained.
In my absence I was made the head of the Youth India Movement. This was a revolutionaries group. There was one of our member called Tukhar Singh Gharwali. I received complaints that Tukhar Singh was not disciplined. He acted as he liked. I called him once and asked him about his activities. I told him we were revolutionaries. We had to work with discipline.
Instead of accepting his mistake, he started to foul mouth me. I got angry and shot him. The bullet pierced his body and came from the other side. He was bleeding. We kept him in a private clinic for three days. He wounds were bandaged there. The Police came to know and interrogated him. He told them that it was me. I was blacklisted and declared a dangerous person. An arrest warrant was issued in my name.
Jairamdas Daulatram sent me a telegram. They told me to go underground so that I could escape the arrest. I replied saying, "I will not go underground. I would continue working staying out"
