Here are some of the most prominent and authentic Hadiths concerning Hajj:
1. The Immense Reward of an Accepted Hajj
An accepted Hajj (Hajj Mabrur) is considered one of the ultimate achievements in a Muslim's spiritual life, promising complete forgiveness and entry into Paradise.
A Pure Clean Slate:
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: "Whoever performs Hajj for Allah's pleasure and does not have sexual relations with his wife, and does not commit sins, then he will return (after Hajj free from all sins) as if he were born new."
— Sahih al-Bukhari
The Ultimate Reward:
The Prophet ﷺ also stated: "The performance of Umrah is an expiation for the sins committed between it and the previous one. And the reward of Hajj Mabrur (an accepted pilgrimage) is nothing but Paradise."
— Sahih al-Bukhari & Sahih Muslim
2. The Obligation of Hajj
Hajj is mandatory once in a lifetime for every adult Muslim who is physically and financially able to undertake the journey. The Hadith literature captures the moment this law was established.
Abu Hurairah narrated: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ addressed us and said: "O people, Allah has made Hajj obligatory for you, so perform Hajj." A man asked, "Is it every year, O Messenger of Allah?" The Prophet remained silent until the man repeated it three times. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "If I were to say yes, it would have become obligatory (every year) and you would not have been able to do it."
— Sahih Muslim
3. How to Perform the Rituals
The Prophet ﷺ emphasized that the specific rituals of Hajj—such as wearing the Ihram (sacred white garments), the Tawaf (circumambulating the Kaaba), and standing at Arafat—must be learned directly from his example.
