Imam al-Sajjad۴ was the Imam who witnessed every moment of Karbala with his own eyes.
After the tragedy of Karbala, when the family of the Prophet۴ was taken captive, the responsibility of Imamate fell upon his shoulders after the martyrdom of his father. Carrying the unbearable grief of Karbala, he was forced to begin the journey to Sham.
Before his eyes were the severed head of Ali Akbar۴, the severed arms of Abbas۴, and the empty cradle of Ali Asghar۴. Yet despite the weight of that pain, he walked beside the women of the Prophet’s family, protecting them with patience and dignity.
He witnessed unimaginable cruelty. Alongside his aunt Syeda Zainab۴, he delivered sermons that exposed the truth and shook the palaces of tyrants. After returning from Sham, he took his sister back to Karbala, where they mourned at the grave of Imam Hussain۴.
From the day of Karbala, he was never truly seen smiling again. Happiness never returned to his heart. The sorrow of Sham stayed with him until his final breath, and with that grief engraved upon his soul, he departed from this world.
And even after enduring all of that, the oppressed Imam۴ was not spared. The Umayyad Caliph had him poisoned, and the Imam۴ who had already carried a lifetime of grief was martyred.
