DHAN DHAN SHAHEED BABA MATI SAHIB JI
Daroli Kalan is a part of the Rajput community villages of this region. His original residence was in a large fort. The fort existed till early part of the last century, and is documented in the Jalandhar edition of the administrative gazetteer of British Punjab. Shri Biram Dev was a commander with the first Mughal emperor Babar He had aided Babar in his battl
e against ibrahim lodhi, the Sultan of Delhi. His son Shri Kailash Dev settled in the Gurdaspur region of Punjab. Kailash Dev's sons BABA KATI JI and BABA MATI JI migrated to Jaswan. Here, they served in the government of the Jaswal Raja of Jaswan in high administrative positions. The Raja granted them a Jagir in lieu of their services, in what is the Halta region of Hoshiarpur district of Punjab. According to elder peoples, BABA MATI JI , the elder brother was half way through marriage rituals, when he was called upon by a Brahmin lady to protect her villagers from Muslim marauders, who were slaughtering cows. BABA MATI JI, in accordance with RAJPUT principles, which prioritized duty before all other matters, left the marriage half-way along with his followers to stop the massacre. BABA MATI JI succeeded in his mission, but fell martyr. He lost his head, but continued to fight. IT WAS A GODLY MIRACLE. Chasing the enemy, he fell martyr in what is today it is called Daroli kalan. The palce where BABA JI fell martyr after winning the battle was changed into a big gurudwara sahib. Which is known as GURUDWARA SHAHEED BABA MATI SAHIB JI. BABA ji’s martyr place where he in the last left his body is marked by a small NISHAN SAHIB… which was recently revealed by BABA BRAHM JI from DERA JUBBER (MANKO). This place is under the tree so called JAND SAHIB. BABA MATI JI’S wife MATA SAMPURNI JI a rajputani, later committed Sati, in accordance with the Rajput traditions of the time. However, MATA JI was only allowed to sati in a separate pyre adjoining Baba Mati Ji and not in his pyre (as the marriage rituals were only partially completed) so the marriage was still incomplete. The tombs (MATH SAHIB) of SHAHEED BABA MATI JI and MATA Sampurni Ji still exist in Daroli, and are revered as (jathere) by Minhas Rajputs and other people of this region. The desciple from all around daily worship the gurudwara sahib.
