St George Orthodox Valiapally,Jabalpur St George Orthodox Church, Ridge Road , Jabalpur is considered as the foundation of stone of North India mission. The big Garrison Church ( now St. Fr. K.K.

George Orthodox Church ) at Ridge Road, Jabalpur has very magnificient history which turns to attention in to the British colonial period in India. It was founded in order to nurture the spiritual needs of the British troops stationed in Jubbalpur ( now Jabalpur) and its neighbouring military centre. It is built on the model of Canterbury Cathedral England in the gothi arhitectural style with a hu

ge tower reaching to the clouds measuring 95 as height with a cross on top of it. The foundation stone of the church was laid on 4th January 1914 by Bishop Lord and it took nearly two years for completion. On 13th February 1916 it was consecrated also by Bishop lord. The church has a seating capacity of more than 2000 people on wither side of the name and aisle. After the Britishers left India in 1947, the church was left unused and came to the stage of deconsecration. It was at this tim e the Orthodox Syrian Christians working at Jabalpur showed great interest to take over the church for their worship and maintenance. Accordingly the church and its compound were handed over to the Orthodox Syrian Christians by the Anglican Bishop of Nagpur in Feb/March 1952 , and the Malankara Orthodox Christians took over its possession. The reins of the church was taken over by Rev. Punnoose in March 1952 as its first vicar and celebrated Holy Qurbana on 6th April 1952 Rev.K.K. Punnoose its first vicar was later elevated as Metropolitan H.G. Dr.Stephanose Mar Theodosius and also took over as the metropolitan of Calcutta diocese under whose jurisdiction this church is placed.

ECUMENICAL CHRISTMAS CELEBRATION AT ST. GEORGE ORTHODOX CHURCH, JABALPUR

Jabalpur: The Ecumenical Christmas Program was successfully conducted on 28th Dec 2025, bringing together various parishes in a spirit of unity and celebration. The event featured a blend of liturgical solemnity, musical performances, and spiritual messages.
​The program began with a Christmas Rally followed by a Processional Hymn by the St. George Orthodox Church Choir.
Rev. Fr. Jose K. Varghese led the opening prayer.
​Mr. Sajeev George welcomed the gathering, while the Presidential Address was deliverd by Rev. Fr.Benny Mathew emphasizing the significance of ecumenical fellowship.
Vibrant carol singing sessions were presented by ​Marthoma Church, Khamaria; ​MGO Church, Hathital; ​St. George Orthodox Church, and ​St. Andrews Marthoma Church. The Chief Guest, Rev. Fr. Shaiju Philip (Vicar, St. John’s Orthodox Church, Itarsi), delivered an inspiring message on the birth of Christ and its relevance in today's world.
​The event included a festive visit from Santa Claus and a Skit performed by the youth members of St. George Orthodox Church.
​Vote of Thanks was given by Mr. A. V. Philip. The program concluded with a closing prayer and Benediction by Rev. Fr. Biju Daniel.

𝐉𝐚𝐛𝐚𝐥𝐩𝐮𝐫: St. George Orthodox Church, Jabalpur celebrated its Parish Day along with a three-day Annual Bible Convention from November 7 - 9, 2025 by chief speaker Rev. Fr. Subin Daniel.
The parish Day was celebrated on 9 November 2025 was graced by the presence of Very Rev. Thomas Ramban, Rev. Fr. Jose K. Varghese and Rev. Fr. Subin Daniel as the guests . On the occasion meritorious students were felicitated and cultural programs were conducted by the Sunday School, MGOCSM, and Youth Movement members. The programs were coordinated under the leadership of Rev. Fr. Biju Daniel (Vicar) along with the Parish Managing Committee.
