“Even when there was no reason for hope, Abraham kept hoping believing that he would become the father of many nations. For God had said to him, “That’s how many descendants you will have!” Romans 4:18

Have you ever doubted God’s promises for your life? Abraham was seventy-five years old when God promised him a son. And God didn’t fulfill his promise to Abraham until he was almost one hundred years old! Imagine waiting on something you knew God had in store for you, but assuming it would come within a reasonable time period of a few years only to become discouraged as the years wore on. And yet Abraham had such great faith in spite of having to wait twenty-five years to see the promise fulfilled. His attitude is an example for us as believers today. All God requires is for us to cease worrying and trust in Him. Even when there was no reason for hope, Abraham kept hoping! Don't you just love that?. When everything in nature stood against him, and it seemed impossible to do, his hope was not based on an earthly one, but it was a hope based on what God had said would happen. For against all hope, all earthly hope, Abraham believed in a heavenly hope in God.

My friends, is there a situation in your life where you have an earthly hope for something to happen? It is time to look beyond an earthly hope and believe in a heavenly one. Believe in God’s promise, even if it seems almost impossible in the natural world. Do not focus on what is seen with the eyes of the flesh, but rather, set your eyes on the eternal promises of God. Be like Abraham, who against all hope, believed in hope and received, inherited the promise of God. (He praised God for this blessing even before it happened). Keep hoping and believe in God’s word, and that promise of God for you will be a reality. being confident that God knows what he’s doing and will work in his timing, not ours. How can we doubt a God who can perform miracles and fulfill the impossible? Look at what he did for Abraham — if God could make an infertile woman have a child in her old age, then God can fulfill his promise toward you. And remember. "Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." Hebrews 11:1.

"As pressure and stress bear down on me, I find JOY in Your commands." Psalm 119:143

how the psalmist’s response to trouble, pressure, and stress in Psalm 119 is not anger or despair.” Even as he is experiencing those things, he reaches deep and discovers joy. The word “commands,” most likely indicates “instructions.” Who gives him help and instructions for such life stresses? God, the Author and Finisher of our faith—the One who is our Refuge and Strength, the One who knows and loves us with an everlasting love. The truth is I think we all have all lived long enough to know that sometimes, no matter what we do, the demands of everyday living can become overwhelming specially in this evil time we are living. Sometimes it's unpleasant and unexpectant news that "ambushes" us when we least expect it.

If that's where you are today, feeling overwhelmed, let this Psalm encourage you and take comfort in the fact that this psalmist knew what it was like to feel pressured and stressed. But what impressed me most was his antidote. JOY. And he found it in God's commands - His Word. Not just reading or speaking the Word - but putting it into practice. He Reminded Himself of God’s promises, his strength was renewed. If you experience stress, learn from the truths discovered by the psalmist. Turn to God. Stand on His Word. Declare His promises to be true. Trust Him, confident that He will bring you through and give you the strength you need and you can find JOY in God's commands!

“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” Romans 8:28

This Scripture brings so much comfort, and hope to Christians every day. Sadly, it’s also often misquoted. First, Romans 8:28 doesn’t mean we can live any way we choose, and God will fix our messes. We can’t just quote the part of the verse we like: “And we know that in all things God works for the good...” and skip the rest, “of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”

Romans 8:28 is a promise for believers. Real believers. Those who are living for Christ. Not those who claim to be believers, but are living like the devil. This verse says to those who love God and are doing their best to obey his commands, “Even though bad/sad/evil/wicked things will touch your life, I (God) will use them to ultimately bring about good, both in your life and in the world.” Second, Romans 8:28 tells us God can use all things together for good. He doesn’t say all things are good. There’s nothing good about cancer, s*x trafficking, or death. Until Jesus returns and conquers Satan once and for all, sin will continue to drag, damage and destroy everything in its wake. The truth of Romans 8:28 reminds us that although sin and Satan are powerful, God is more powerful; He is able to redeem and restore anything for our good and his glory. All things may not be good, but God can and will use all things for good.

"Devote yourself to prayer with an alert mind and thankful heart." Colossians 4:2

God wants our prayer life to be authentic and honest. He wants us to talk to Him as we would talk to someone we love and trust and who truly loves us. As someone we can’t wait to communicate with. What you need to do is ask yourselves, do you really devote yourself to prayer? When you are devoted to prayer, your prayer life will be one that is as natural and constant as your breathing is. But so many people go about their day with only a few words here and there to God. Can you relate?

The reality of the situation is, when you are not communicating with God you are leaving out His understanding and wisdom, and even His power. This means as a believer your life is led by yourself and not by the Holy Spirit. This is certainly a recipe for an unfruitful life as a Christian! How should you devote yourself to prayer? I have found that if I want to be devoted to prayer, I need to start my day with the thought and reality that God is with me, during this time I let Him speak to me and be still and listen. I try not to chatter away at Him, but give Him the quietness to speak to my heart and renew my mind. Then my prayer life every morning seems to follow my mind-set and I just naturally talk with Him through out the day it's the most wonderful peaceful feeling.

The Lord is close to all who call on him, yes to all who call on him in truth.” Psalm 145:18

There is so much truth, hope and comfort in this passage of scripture. We have a God who wants to have an intimate relationship with His people. For that intimacy to be genuine, we have to be able to speak to God truthfully. Each one of us has days where it feels as though God is far away, or like He can’t hear us. It’s what we do when we feel that way that matters. King David, who wrote many of our favorite psalms, shared throughout several of the psalms that at times he felt abandoned by God. But notice the pattern? While he may start a psalm lamenting that he feels God can’t hear or has forsaken him, by the end of the psalm he is praising God for His goodness and faithfulness!

When we feel like God can’t hear us, it’s at those times that we really need to cry out to God! He does hear! He is listening! When we call upon the Lord, He answers us. It doesn't matter if we call upon Him for help, for strength, for guidance, in a time of need, of trial, of adversity- He answers and comes to our aid. It doesn't matter how great the need is when we call, He does not lack in strength or ability to meet the need. How comforting to know that He will come to our rescue and not leave us on our own to try to deliver ourselves, solve our own problem or figure out a solution. Are you in a place where you need to be "rescued" Rescued from grief, worry, fear, a financial burden, the pain of a broken relationship, confusion that continually clouds your thinking or from some besetting sin? Call upon the Lord, and trust Him to answer you. Believe that He will rescue you. Know that He loves you deeply and will not stay away from your cry. He will rescue you because when you call, the Bible says in James 4:8 says, “Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.” Make an effort. Pray. Read your Bible. Cry out to the Lord. When you draw near to the Lord and He draws near to you then He is close enough to reach us and lift us from whatever we are needing to be rescued from.

"When I am afraid, I will put my trust in You. In God, whose word I praise— in God I trust and am not afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?" Psalm 56:3-4

Have there been times in your life when it felt like enemies were on every side and they were closing in on you? David’s response to this impending doom in his life is described in this psalm. He says, "when I am afraid?’ Fear in this kind of circumstance is caused by our inability to defend ourselves from the attack of the enemy. Some attacks will come into our lives that we are completely helpless to defend against. David proceeded with the statement, ‘I will put my trust in You.’ David trusted God to defend him. A fearless life is one that recognizes that it is God that will defend us and that He is able to defend us. David lived a fearless life. We as followers can live that same kind of fearless life because we also are children of Almighty God.

Do you love God enough to trust Him with your very lives when all you see is darkness around you as you tentatively tap your feet for your next step? Can you rely on Him to do what is best for us even though it seems wrong to your human reasoning and everything in you screams to do the opposite? It's then that He wants to know He has your allegiance. It's at that moment that words and actions of praise reach to the heart of God because it has cost you every shred of self-reliance and intuition to believe that He who is God, will remain God despite everything that is happening around you. He is unchangeable, immutable and eternal. That He loved us enough to pursue a relationship with us despite everything we are should bring us to our knees! If He never did another thing for us during our earthly span of days, that one act of love on Calvary is enough for us to praise Him the rest of our lives. Let God’s word saturate your mind, heart, and soul. Trust Him to take care of you and then face the scary world out there with the confidence of knowing that God loves you with infinite love.

“That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” Philippians 2:10–11

There is something powerful about the name of Jesus. Right now, people may ignore Him, reject Him, mock Him, or live as though they don't need Him. The world may question who Jesus is, but there is coming a day when every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord. No one will be able to deny His authority. No one will be able to argue with His holiness. No one will be able to diminish His glory. Jesus is Lord—not because the world recognizes Him, but because He is Lord regardless of whether the world recognizes Him.

Philippians 2 reminds us that Jesus humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death—even the death of the cross. Because of His humility, obedience, and sacrifice, God has highly exalted Him and given Him the name that is above every name. Think about that for a moment: the One who humbled Himself for us is the One before whom every knee will ultimately bow. That should change the way we live today. We don't have to wait until that day to bow before Jesus. We can surrender to Him now. We can lay down our pride now. We can surrender our plans now. We can trust Him when we don't understand now. We can acknowledge His lordship over our relationships, our families, our finances, our careers, our dreams, and our future. The question isn't whether Jesus will ultimately be recognized as Lord. He will. The question is whether we will willingly surrender to His lordship today.

“Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze." Isaiah 43:1-2

I can hardly think of more beautiful words in all of the old testament from God to His people. To say this to His people and then just to think about these realities in our own lives right now, through Christ. So I want you to just let these words fall on your heart, to hear God saying to you, fear not, I have redeemed you. I have saved you from your sin. I have made you my son or daughter. You are my child, I have called you by name. Oh, let this soak in, the God of the universe has called your name. He says, you are mine, you belong to him. What an amazing thought. In my life today I belong to God, you belong to God. And then he starts giving these promises based on who we are. When you pass the waters I will be with you. When you pass the rivers they will not overwhelm you. When you walk through fire you will not be burned. Now, let this soak in, what he’s saying here. He’s not saying that as his people, as his sons and daughters, his children, that things are going to be easy for us in this world. He’s talking about passing through waters and through rivers. He says when you walk through fire, not if you walk through fire, he’s saying, you’re gonna walk through fire. You’re going to pass through rivers. Things are not always going to go well for you. As surely as God keeps His promises to His people of Israel, so He will keep His promises to the followers of Jesus Christ. How blessed we are that we have been grafted into such wonderful assurances by His saving grace!

The Bible teaches over and over again that our God will never fail us if we put our trust in Him. What an encouraging reminder this is for us living in these last days. Let me encourage you like I do myself that He knows all about your heart-burdens. Hear His whisper from His Word … from His heart that, “I will never leave you or forsake you.)Deuteronomy 31:6) I know your name and have engraved it on the palm of my hand.(Isaiah 49:16) that My grace is sufficient for you(2 Corinthians 12:9) and I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world. I’m right here.” (John 16:33)

"LORD, you know the hopes of the helpless. Surely you will hear their cries and comfort them." Psalm 10:17

David started off this Psalm wondering why God was standing a long way off. He felt that he was all alone. By the time he gets to the end of the Psalm, David knows that God is listening to all who are going through trouble. God reaches down and encourages them and hears what they have to say. Every person on this earth has had troubles and challenges in life. Some have greater challenges than others, but all have them. This causes many people to be void of hope, crushed by troubles and challenges in life. Their eyes are swollen from all the crying. They are wounded by life’s setbacks. Out of this backdrop of despair, the Lord presents himself as our hope. That is where we are when the Lord is in our life.

The Psalmist assures us that the Lord hears our cries and comforts us. There may be areas in your life that leave you seemingly helpless. There appears to be no answer, no solution but remember, as followers of Christ even when we seem helpless, we are not hopeless. But throughout the entire Bible, one of the messages God repeats constantly is that He is with His people. He hears their cries. God told Joshua to be strong and courageous. A few thousand years later, Jesus told the disciples that He would always be with them. Those lines have never changed. God is still with you to this day, and He encourages you to be strong and courageous and that He hears your every cry.
