Our Story

On the way to the then Hyderabad Broad Guage Railway Station (Now Nampally or Hyderabad Railway Station) stands a handsome brick built structure known as METHODIST EPISCOPAL CHURCH. The Church was strictly self-supporting, the expenses of the Church right from its inception has been defrayed by its members and worshipers.

In 1874, Captain Winckler who had come to work for the Nizam’s State Railway began cottage prayer meetings in Secunderabad and people started attending them from Bolarum and Chaderghat (now Abids). In 1875, Rev William Taylor visited Hyderabad and conducted a series of meetings which which greatly encouraged the work. The first Minister to be appointed here was Rev J E Robinson later to become Bishop of the Methodist Episcopal Church.

For sometime the worship services were held in a temporary building. After a sermon by Rev C W Hard, Presiding elder on November 1, 1875 it was decided to erect a Church building. Immediately pledges were made and MRS ANNA WALKER a God fearing Widow, very generously donated a large plot of land and also a sum or Rs. 150. In 1937 the Church received from her estates a further sum of Rs 800, the remaining amount left after the ex*****on of her will.

And so in 1877 the structure was completed consisting of the east and west wings and also a Parsonage for the Pastor’s residence at a total cost of Rs. 25,000/- out of which Rs. 22,500 was raised locally among the members and sympathizing friends. The deficit of Rs.2,500 was subsequently raised locally and the debt cleared by the congregation.
