How to perform the Tahajjud prayer?
NIGHT PRAYER
•••═══════════════════••••
Assalamualaikum Waa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuh.
Every time has a specific feature in Allah's sight. However, certain times are more valuable than others, and they are to be taken advantage of. And night-time is one of these times that the Qur'an and the sayings of the Prophet (pbuh) describe as valuable.
The value that Allah ascribes to night-time and the secrets hidden in it are countless.
The Prophet (pbuh) used to pray at night until he was footsore. He was once asked:
"O the Messenger of Allah! Why do you strain yourself though Allah declared in the Qur'an (in chapter 48) that you were forgiven of all your sins?"
He replied:"Should not I be a thanking servant?"
(Sahih Al-Bukhari)
Abu Hurayra (Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace be upon him, his family, and companions) was asked, “What prayer is most virtuous, after the obligatory prayers?” He said, “Prayer in the depths of the night.”
[Muslim, Abu Dawud, Tirmidhi, Nasa'i
Ibn Mas`ud(ra) explained the hadith that, “The virtues of night prayer over day prayer is like the virtue of secret charity over open charity.” [Tabarani]
Time of Tahajjud Prayer :
-----------------------
Tahajjud prayer may be performed in the early part of the night, the middle part of the night, or the later part of the night, but after the obligatory Isha prayer. Tahajjud prayer can be performed whenever in the night unless the doer time for sleep. But the best time to perform is 1/3 of the night after waking up from sleep.
It can’t be offered straight away after Isha, yet just after one`s rest, neither when the time is close to Fajr.
Conditions of offering Tahajjud Prayer
-------------------------------------Make an intention of performing Tahajjud prayer and rearrange to wake up finally a piece of the night.
Make sure to perform Wudu as one should perform before every tahajjud namaz.
Move to a clean and quiet place in the house being away from distractions.
The Prophet Muhammad frequently prayed up to thirteen rakats. For most Muslims, Tahajjud rakats are performed in pairs and eight rakats is seen as plenty. In other words, most Muslims will say two, four, six, or eight rakats, though more is not necessarily discouraged.
After praying tahajjut prayer complete (̲W̲I̲T̲R̲)̲
Ways of offering Witr prayer:
-------------------------------
As a virtue, the least of it is three rak'ats. The most virtuous form of performing it is making salam (ending by saying assalamu alaykum wa rahmatullah) every two rak'ats and performing the remaining one rak'at at the end with a separate word of intention.
When the Witr Prayer is performed as three rak'ats, it is sunnah to recite the surah of “Sabbihisma rabbika'l ala”(Surah Al-A'la) in the first rak'at after Fatiha surah to recite “Kafirun” Surah in the second rak'at, and in the last rak'at to recite the surahs of “Ikhlas, Falaq and Nas”.
Don’t forget to supplicate to SWT for one`s just and rightful requests in order to get benefited from this exceedingly rewarding hour of darkness.
What surah we should recite in tahajjut?
There is not specific surah but Lengthier recitation is superior to a larger number of rakats prayed. If you are able to,
Allah has praised those who wake up at night for His remembrance, supplication, and to seek forgiveness and entreat Him,
