PRAISE IS STRENGTH
April 30

"Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings hast thou ordained strength because of thine enemies, that thou mightest still the enemy and the avenger". (Psalm 8:2)

When Jesus made His triumphal entry into the city of Jerusalem on what we call Palm Sunday, thousands of people turned out to greet Him, singing, “Hosanna to the Son of David” (Matt. 21:15). This greatly upset the Pharisees and the chief priests because they considered this blasphemy. It would have been blasphemy if Jesus was not God. But Jesus was God; therefore it was appropriate for the people to worship Him.

This strength is specifically to be used against our enemy. It says that it stops the enemy and the avenger. Praise is the greatest weapon we have against Satan and his daily onslaught. It literally makes Satan flee in terror when we begin to praise God, and the anointing of God is able to manifest itself in the absence of opposition from the devil. Praise is spiritual warfare. I have seen many people get into what they call spiritual warfare, but it is actually depressing. They are fighting the devil and spending more time with the devil than they are with God. That’s not right. Yes, there is a place for fighting and resisting the devil, but maintaining an attitude of praise is the best weapon we have.

If sickness tries to come upon your body, instead of spending so much time dealing with the devil and making that your priority, begin to praise God and thank Him for the healing that has been promised to you. The medical profession has statistics that show a happy and joyful person is much healthier than a person who is morbid, sad, and depressed. Praise God for healing you, and let the joy of the Lord be your strength.

OUR FAITH MUST BE IN GOD
April 24

“And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God” (Mark 11:22).

Hebrews 12:2 says we are to look “unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith.” Faith begins and ends with God. Faith is totally dependent on Him. A person whose faith is truly in God will not find it more difficult to believe for big things and easier to believe for minor problems. Everything is small compared to God’s ability. He’s limitless. If our faith is in God, then our faith should know no limits.

Is your faith in God? It’s easy to tell. Can you believe for anything, or are certain things too big? If your faith is limited, then your faith isn’t totally in God. You’re still basing too much on yourself and others. When your faith is in God alone, nothing’s impossible (Mark 9:23, 10:27). We can limit God (Ps. 78:41). One of the quickest ways to do that is to make your faith dependent on yourself instead of Him. Take the limits off God by putting your faith totally in Him. It’s in His power, ability, and holiness that you should have faith, not in your own.

GOD'S KIND OF LOVE
April 23

"Charity [the unmerited, action-expressed love of God] suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things. Charity never faileth". (1 Corinthians 13:4–8)

God’s love is humble. It is not puffed up. What most people today call love doesn’t display any of the traits listed in 1 Corinthians. Their love is selfish and rude. It is easily angered and keeps record of wrongs. It envies and boasts and is quick to believe the worst in others. It doesn’t resemble God’s kind of love at all. At its best, it is a cheap imitation.

This is the reason so many marriages fail. You can’t marry a person hoping they’ll complete you or make your life perfect. Marriage is not about getting. It’s not even a fifty-fifty endeavor. Marriage is about giving. If you want a lasting, happy marriage, find someone you can pour your life into and someone who will pour into you. See who can out-give and out-love the other.

If you love like God and put other people ahead of yourself, you’ll not be easily provoked (1 Cor. 13:5) . Remember Proverbs 13:10? It says, “Only by pride cometh contention.” The only reason you get angry or give in to a “short fuse” is pride. I know that’s hard to swallow, but it’s the truth. You can’t control what other people do. You may be praying for God to remove every obstacle, every person who rubs you the wrong way, but you’re wasting your breath. Other people are not your problem. The way you respond to others and the circumstances of life is the problem. God called us to be salt and light in this world (Matt. 5:13–14). To do that, we have to get out of the saltshaker. We have to connect with others and love like God loves—humbly and selflessly.

THE RHEMA WORD
April 22

“And Peter remembered the word of Jesus, which said unto him, Before the c**k crow, thou shalt deny me thrice. And he went out, and wept bitterly”. (Matthew 26:75)

“Peter remembered the word of Jesus” says it all! There are several Greek words used for word. The Greek word used here is rhema, and it literally means, “a spoken word; an utterance, a saying, but specifically a spoken word appropriate for the situation.” It’s not the Bible lying on your coffee table that makes the enemy flee. It is the Word of God hidden in your heart, activated by the power of the Holy Spirit, and spoken in the appropriate situation that destroys all deception and makes you free.

The word rhema brings to mind what Jesus said in John 6:63, that “the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit and they are life.” The words that we speak from the written Word of God are empowered by the Holy Spirit. The Word by itself doesn’t make us free. It is the Word we know and speak in faith that will deliver us. ( John 8:32.) The Word is effective and powerful because it is God’s Word. His Word supersedes all authority of the church, of reason, of intellect, and of the enemy. When we connect His Word with our heart, and our heart connects His Word to our situation—then we have a rhema word.

This is exactly what Peter was doing just after he denied Jesus the third time. Sometimes a rhema word will come after your worst failures, and that is because the Holy Spirit is reminding you of the only Word that can restore and get you moving again. You can rise above any failure today by listening to the Holy Spirit who will always put you in remembrance of the Word of God—and then that rhema word will set you free.

GOD'S WORD CLEANSES US
April 21

“The fining pot is for silver, and the furnace for gold: but the Lord trieth the hearts”.(Proverbs 17:3)

In the same way that gold or silver is refined through melting and then skimming off the impurities that rise to the top, so God refines our hearts. A lot has been said about this that I believe is incorrect. Some people say that God puts trouble, trials, sicknesses, diseases, hardships, and other things on us, and that’s how we’re purified. But Jesus said in John 15:2, “Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.” And the next verse says, “Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.”

The way God purges, or purifies, us isn’t through trials and tribulations but through the Word of God. If trials and tribulations purify us, then those who’ve been tried and “tribulated” the most should be the purest people, but that’s not the case. Trials and tribulations melt us, but it’s the Word of God that purifies. It’s the truth of God’s Word: “Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you” (John 15:3).

KNOWING WHO YOU ARE
April 20

Matthew 4:1-11; Mark 1:12-13; Luke 4:1-13

"And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread." (Matthew 4:3)

Two of Satan’s three temptations began with the words, “If you be the Son of God.” Jesus was God, but He did have a human body that had to grow in the knowledge and wisdom of God. ( John 1:1; 1 Tim. 3:16; Luke 2:52.) It took faith for the physical mind of Jesus to believe the witness of the Spirit within Him that He was the Messiah. In Matthew 4:3, Satan attacked the most basic of Jesus’ beliefs: who He was. Satan also knew He was hungry. Turning stones into bread must have been a temptation for Jesus, or Satan would not have used it.

Satan is very subtle in his temptations. It looked like he was trying to get Jesus
to perform a miracle, but he was actually trying to make Jesus waiver in His faith concerning who He was. He tried to get Jesus to draw on the supernatural power of God to confirm His own identity, but it didn’t work! Jesus knew who He was and never wavered in believing it.Unlike Jesus, we sometimes fall for this trick of the devil. We may say we are arguing what we believe, but we are hoping to convince ourselves. Someone who really knows who they are in Christ does not have to prove anything to anyone because they have full assurance from God’s Word that He loves them and values them.

Isaiah 30:15 says, “For thus saith the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel; In returning and rest shall ye be saved; in quietness and in confidence shall be your strength.” Today meditate on God’s Word and let the Holy Spirit build your confidence in who you are in Christ Jesus.

WHAT’S YOUR EXCUSE?
April 18

JEREMIAH 1:4-10

“Then said I, Ah, Lord GOD! behold, I cannot speak: for I am a child” (Jer. 1:6).

God had just revealed to Jeremiah that He had created him for a specific purpose. He had sanctified and ordained him to be a prophet to the nation of Israel. What wonderful news! How awesome to know that God had a special purpose when He created you. You aren’t an accident. You were created on purpose to accomplish a specific purpose! But Jeremiah wasn’t blessed by this news—he was intimidated. He wanted out of God’s plan for his life. Jeremiah thought it was greater than what he could do.

If what you feel called to do isn’t greater than what you think you can do, then it’s probably not God. God is a big God and He calls us to big things. Man thinks small. God thinks big! Jeremiah protested that he was only a child and couldn’t speak. In truth, he was a grown man at this time. He was referring to his belief that he was inadequate for the task. Moses tried this same line on God (Ex. 4:10). We’ve all tried it. But the Lord commanded Jeremiah never again to say he was incompetent. The truth is that none of us are capable of accomplishing God’s will on our own. But it’s also
true that none of us are on our own when we submit to God’s will. The Lord gives us special anointings and gifts to accomplish His will. All we have to do is yield. God does the rest.

Do you know what God’s will is for your life? Are you lacking what it takes to get it done? You’re in good company! Don’t try to fulfill the task in your own strength and never again refer to your weakness. Go forward in His might instead!

WHO MOVED?
April 15

“If we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another” (1 John 1:7).

Do you want to know where Jesus walks? He always walks in the light. This light is God’s will. The light is also God’s Word. If we want to be successful, we need to walk in God’s will and God’s Word. This way, we’ll always be walking beside Jesus.

When we walk in God’s light, we have fellowship with God the Father and Jesus. God’s desire is not only to have sons and daughters but friends. God wants to talk with us and have us talk with Him. The Greek word for fellowship is koinonia. It’s more than just speaking to one another; it’s intimate fellowship—conversation between close friends.

Jesus is always in the light. He never moves. We’re the ones who move in and out of the light. Sin removes us from the light of fellowship. Forgiveness of sins brings us back. “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9). This brings us out of the darkness and back into the light of His presence.

An older couple was driving down the road one day. The wife was next to the door on her side and a great distance stood between her and her husband. Who knows how many years ago this began. A young couple drove around them. They were sitting so close together they almost looked like one person. A small tear came down the cheek of the older woman as she remembered the days she and her husband were young and in love. She remarked to her husband, “Do you remember when we used to sit that close to each other?” He replied, “I haven’t moved.”

Are you wondering why you and the Lord aren’t as close to each other as you once were? Just remember, He hasn’t moved.

HOLY GHOST TEACHER
April 14

“And the Jews marvelled, saying, How knoweth this man letters, having never learned?”(John 7:15)

Jesus received His wisdom and knowledge by direct revelation from the Spirit of God rather than by the teachings of man. Jesus had been learning, but not through man. The Holy Ghost was His teacher. Jesus had to be taught the things of God. This looks contrary to Colossians 2:3, which says that all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge are hidden in Jesus. If Jesus was God manifest in the flesh, why would He have to learn or be taught?

The harmony between these apparently opposite statements is that Jesus’
spirit man was 100 percent God and had all of the wisdom and understanding
of God in it, but it was manifest in natural flesh. It wasn’t sinful flesh, but it was flesh nonetheless, and had to be educated. Jesus was not taught by man, but He was taught by the direct revelation of the Holy Spirit. The knowledge was within Him but it had to be drawn out. At the new birth, a born-again man’s spirit “is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him” (Col. 3:10). “We have the mind of Christ” (1 Cor. 2:16), and “an unction from the Holy One, and ye know all things” (1 Jn. 2:20). All of these things are a reality in our spiritual man.

However, just as Jesus had to be taught, so we must draw this wisdom and knowledge out of our spirits and renew our minds with it (Rom. 12:2). This is one of the main ministries of the Holy Spirit to the believer. Through the new birth, we have received the mind of Christ in our spirits and are in the process of growing in wisdom by drawing this knowledge out of our spirits and renewing (or reprogramming) our minds. This wisdom has to be drawn out by faith, time spent in the Word, and prayer.

NEVER SEPARATED FROM THE LOVE OF GOD!
April 13

"But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life"(Romans 6:22)

Notice how it’s a fruit, not a root, of salvation. “Holiness” doesn’t produce God moving in your life, but your external actions of holiness are a result of understanding the righteous nature of your born-again spirit.

This has changed my life! It’s given me a deep abiding security in my relationship with God because I know He loves me! In fact, He loves me infinitely more than I’ve ever yet perceived. After the warm feelings of my miraculous encounter
with God subsided, (because of my actions) I thought, Well, He loved me at one time, but I’m not sure He still loves me now because I just don’t feel worthy. Then I came to realize that my born-again spirit is righteous and holy. I recognised that God looks at me Spirit to spirit, and He loves the born-again part of me!

I’m His workmanship, “created in Christ Jesus unto good works” (Eph. 2:10). In my spirit, I’m perfect and pure. God loves me and I’m never separated from His love. This sheds new light on, “Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? ..For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Rom. 8:35, 38-39). In my spirit, God has already given me His full measure of love. “And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace” (John 1:16). I’m full of God. One-third of me is wall-to-wall Holy Spirit! And if you’re born again, all these things are true of you too!

This knowledge will impact your life and make you feel so pure. You’ll be so appreciative of what God has done that you’ll live holier in your actions accidentally than you’ve ever lived on purpose!

ONE WORD FROM GOD CAN CHANGE EVERYTHING
April 11
“And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus”. (Matthew 14:29)
Peter had taken his attention off of the howling wind and swirling water—everything that hindering them from making it to the other side—and was looking at Jesus. He was believing that he could do miraculous things. He had asked, and God had given him the command—“Come!”
One word from Jesus is enough to overcome whatever circumstance, situation, or problem is trying to destroy you. One word! And the good news is that we have lots of words in the Bible. Just one word quickened to you—made alive—is enough to overcome any storm, or problem, you may encounter in your life. That’s powerful!

GREAT FAITH
April 10

“Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel” (Matt. 8:10).

There are only two times in Scripture when Jesus marveled: one is here, at the centurion’s great faith, and the other is in Mark 6, when He marveled at people’s unbelief. Jesus was amazed that a man could operate in this strong of a faith. It wasn’t typical. It wasn’t what the Lord saw in most people. And He was amazed that even His disciples could be so full of unbelief after spending so much time with Him.

Notice how Jesus marveled and then said to the people who followed Him, “Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel” (Matt. 8:10). What made this man’s faith great? It was because his faith was in the Word alone. He didn’t need Jesus to come and wave His hand over the servant. He didn’t need the Lord to enter into his house and do something.

Many people today use all kinds of things to motivate and, in a sense, psych themselves into believing. I’m not saying that those things shouldn’t be used, because God is very intent on trying to get His blessings and His power to people. I believe He uses a lot of things that aren’t His first or best choice. But I can tell you from this passage of Scripture what is God’s best. The type of faith He respects the most is the kind that goes to His Word, takes what He says, and believes His Word more than anything else. That’s awesome!
