One of the most beautiful things you can learn is what you are actually saying to Allah in your ṣalāh.

These are not just words we repeat while sitting in prayer.

In the Tashahhud, you declare that all greetings, prayers and good things belong to Allah. You send peace upon the Prophet ﷺ. You send peace upon yourself and the righteous servants of Allah. You renew your testimony that none has the right to be worshipped except Allah and that Muhammad ﷺ is His servant and Messenger.

Then you send peace and blessings upon Muhammad ﷺ and his family, just as Allah blessed Ibrāhīm عليه السلام and his family.

Imagine understanding every sentence while you say it.

Prayer changes when the tongue is no longer reciting words the heart does not understand.

Don’t only memorise your ṣalāh.
Learn its meaning.
Reflect on it.
Let your heart be present when your tongue speaks.

Save this and come back to it until the words become familiar.

And share it with someone who prays. You may help them understand words they have been saying for years.

May Allah grant us khushūʿ in our prayers, make ṣalāh beloved to our hearts, and accept it from us. Ameen

Two phrases. Light on the tongue. Heavy on the Scale. Beloved to the Most Merciful.

سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ وَبِحَمْدِهِ، سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ الْعَظِيمِ

Subḥānallāhi wa biḥamdihi, Subḥānallāhil-ʿAdtheem.

“Glory be to Allah and praise be to Him; glory be to Allah, the Magnificent.”

The Prophet ﷺ said:

“There are two words which are light on the tongue, heavy on the Scale, and beloved to the Most Merciful…”

Then he (salal llāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) mentioned these words.

A few seconds of dhikr may seem small to us, yet its weight with Allah can be immense.

Say it slowly. Understand what you are saying. Let your tongue remain moist with the remembrance of Allah.

May Allah make us among those who remember Him often and fill our scales with deeds beloved to Him. Āmīn.
