Divine Power

His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence.
2 Peter 1:3, ESV

It’s one thing to know the right thing to do, to know that God is speaking to us, calling us to come up higher, but often we think we’re inadequate, as though we’re not able. There’s a real battle that takes place in our mind. If you’re telling yourself that you’re stuck and limited, that you don’t have the discipline, you’ll never get off dead center. You’re defeating yourself with your own thoughts.
You have to have a new mindset. The beauty is that not only does God give you the challenge, but with that instruction comes the divine power and the anointing to accomplish it. You have the most powerful force in the universe working in you to do what He is asking you to do. Now, it’s up to you to activate that power and take that step of faith. When you do, there will be a power in you, a strength, a confidence, a knowing that you’ve never experienced. There will be a power to break barriers, to set new standards, and to accomplish what seems impossible. Just believe it and receive it.

Prayer For Today
“Father, thank You for coming to dwell within me by Your Spirit. Thank You that You have given me a spirit of power and courage to stretch and become all You created me to be. I declare that I will not let fear and doubt keep me from accomplishing all that You call me to do. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

It’s Getting You Prepared

The LORD directs our steps, so why try to understand everything along the way?
Proverbs 20:24, NLT

You may be in a season that’s unfair, that’s uncomfortable, that’s lonely. You’re not making progress, and you can’t understand why. What you can’t see right now is that it’s doing something in you. You’re getting stronger, you’re growing, you’re developing greater faith, trust, and endurance. It’s getting you prepared for where God is taking you.
Now, do the right thing when it’s hard. Forgive when someone doesn’t deserve it. Smile when you could be sour. Praise when you could complain. That’s passing the test. You’re going to see the hand of God take what’s difficult and uncomfortable in your life and do more than you can imagine. He’ll take what seems broken and make something beautiful. He doesn’t waste anything. The pain is real, but it’s not going to be wasted. The struggle is difficult, but there is good coming out of it. The betrayal, or the sickness, or the loss is not how your story ends. God is directing your steps whether you see it or not. Healing is coming, breakthroughs are coming, new beginnings and the right people are coming.

Prayer For Today
“Father, thank You that You are the Most High God who is directing my steps. Thank You that the difficulty I’m experiencing now is developing something in me that I can’t get when it’s easy. I believe that You are preparing me for where You are taking me. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

The Fire Inside

“…his word is in my heart like a fire, a fire shut up in my bones. I am weary of holding it in; indeed, I cannot.”
Jeremiah 20:9, NIV

When God first called Jeremiah to be a prophet, he responded, “I’m too young. I can’t speak. I’m unqualified.” In today’s Scripture, even though he’s in the midst of heavy persecution and discouragement, Jeremiah is saying, “God put His word in me, and it’s like a fire shut up in me. I have this gift, this talent, this anointing, and a power that I never realized.”

That makes me wonder what is shut up in you right now? What has God already programmed you with that He wants to make a fire? Perhaps a book, a talent, a business, resources, leadership, courage, or wealth is shut up in you. God has already ordained it to happen. You’ve been faithful and done the right thing when it was hard. God is about to release what’s been shut up. You’re going to step into resources you never dreamed you would handle, doors you never expected to open, talent you didn’t know is in you. Get ready. It’s going to be something that will cause you to stand out, to impact your family and your community, to leave your mark.

Prayer For Today
“Father, thank You for the fire of the promises and dreams that are burning deep inside me. Help me stir up my gift and creativity and let the passion become a flame. I believe that there is nothing the enemy can bring against me that can put out Your fire. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Don’t Let It In

Esau’s wives made life miserable for Isaac and Rebekah.
Genesis 26:35, NLT

After a season of difficulties, Isaac had signed a peace treaty with King Abimelech. He and his wife, Rebekah, had moved into land with beautiful pastures for their herds and dug a well that provided plenty of water. Life seemed good until their son Esau married two Hittite women who made them miserable. No details are given as to what these wives did, and it can seem odd that this verse is included in the Scripture. But God is showing us that even though we’re blessed and have favor, we can let people steal our joy if we don’t stay on guard. Isaac and Rebekah allowed whatever was happening to get inside them, and it made them upset and bitter.
Don’t be surprised if Esau’s wives show up in your life, so to speak. A family member, a friend, or a coworker may do things that get on your nerves and aggravate you. You have the power to ignore it and refuse to let it get inside. Don’t put your happiness in their hands. Let it go and keep a good attitude.

Prayer For Today
“Father, thank You that You have power over what I cannot control. When I face situations and other people who could make me miserable, help me learn to hold my peace and not let it inside. I will remain at rest and trust that You will fight my battles for me. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Chain Breaker

“Should not this woman, a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan has kept bound for eighteen long years, be set free on the Sabbath day from what bound her?”
Luke 13:16, NIV

The woman in today’s Scripture had been bent over and unable to stand up straight for eighteen years. Jesus said to her, “Woman, you are set free from your infirmity.” Then He touched and healed her. Notice that the sickness came from the enemy. The good news is that Jesus came to free you from whatever has bound you. The Scripture says Jesus came to destroy the works of the enemy—sickness, addiction, depression.
God was showing us that no matter how long you’ve been dealing with an illness, your time is coming. The Lord your healer has not forgotten about you. He has seen the pain, the heartache, the lonely nights. The medical experts may run out of options, but God does not run out of options. It’s not going to be natural; it’s going to be supernatural. It’s going to defy the odds. Now stay in an attitude of faith: “I am a child of God. I believe that Jesus is breaking every chain that is holding me back and healing is flowing through my body right now. I’m getting healthier, stronger, more energetic.”

Prayer For Today
“Father, thank You that I can know You as my savior, as my provider, as my healer, and as my chain breaker of any infirmity. Thank You that my chains are gone and I’ve been set free. I believe that every force that has been holding me back has been broken. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Why the Criticism?

But you, why do you criticize your brother? Or you again, why do you look down on your brother or regard him with contempt? For we will all stand before the judgment seat of God.
Romans 14:10, AMP

It’s easy to be critical of someone when we hear what they supposedly said or did that we think is wrong or is something we don’t like. But how many times are we judging things prematurely, finding fault in someone without knowing the facts, without knowing the motives, without knowing the challenges, without knowing how they were raised or what they’re dealing with? Sometimes we’re critical of things we don’t understand. We form negative opinions when it’s actually not what it looks like. We don’t know the full story, and we assume things that may not be true. If we walked in that person’s shoes, most of the time we’d be more understanding, more compassionate.
Even if what we’ve heard is true, where is the mercy? Where is the grace to give people room to make mistakes, to not be perfect? Maybe God is dealing with them, maybe they’re going to make better decisions. Instead of judging them, talking behind their backs, why don’t you take that same time and pray for them? Be a part of the solution and not the problem.

Prayer For Today
“Father, thank You for freely giving me Your mercy that I might freely give it to others. Thank You for always calling me higher, to see others through Your eyes, and to have an understanding heart. Help me to not be critical and judgmental of others, to be part of the solution and not the problem. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Real Victory

“The Holy Spirit testifies in every city, saying that chains and tribulations await me. But none of these things move me; nor do I count my life dear to myself, so that I may finish my race with joy.”
Acts 20:23–24, NKJV

The apostle Paul was very aware of the troubles and imprisonments that were in front of him. But he also knew that real victory is not when God does everything you like. Real victory is not when God changes all your negative circumstances and fixes all the people who get on your nerves. Real victory is when all that happens, but it doesn’t bother you anymore. You’ve grown to the point where you don’t have to have all that to be happy. You’re content while God is working right where you are, knowing that He’s given you grace, not just for the good times, but grace for the tribulations. When there’s pressure, when people betray your trust, when doors won’t open, your attitude is: “I’m going to keep running my race with joy despite what’s coming against me. Yes, there’s a lot of pressure, but I’m still going to give God praise. I’m on a road that I didn’t choose, but God is ordering my steps. I will not let what I want to get in the way of where God is taking me.”

Prayer For Today
“Father, thank You that I don’t have to be moved by the tests and troubles I face because I know that You are still on the throne. My faith and trust are in You and Your mighty power at work in my life right here and now. Help me to walk in real victory and to finish my race with joy. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

What’s the Hurry?

Don’t be impatient for the Lord to act! Keep traveling steadily along his pathway and in due season he will honor you with every blessing.
Psalm 37:34, TLB

It’s easy to get impatient and try to take matters into your own hands when what you’re trusting God for is taking longer than you thought. But God’s promise is that if you keep traveling steadily in faith, He will honor you with every blessing in His timing. Don’t fight the wait or get discouraged. Don’t be in a hurry when you’re waiting for the right person, waiting for the business to rebound, waiting for your health to turn around. God is strategic. God does everything for a reason. There is nothing random or haphazard about His actions. He knows what you need and when you’re going to need it. Sometimes He delays things, closes a door, or causes someone to walk away. You may not recognize it at that moment, but it’s all serving His plan. He is working on what you’re concerned about. If it hasn’t happened yet, it wasn’t supposed to happen. God has an appointed time to bring the promise to pass. You can stay in peace, knowing that He’s ordering your steps and every blessing is on the way.

Prayer For Today
“Father, thank You that there is a purpose for times of waiting, whether I understand it or not. Help me to be patient, to keep traveling steadily along Your path, and to rest in the fact that it’s all part of Your plan. I believe that You have every blessing already lined up for me. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Reverse the Insecurity

“But Lord,” Gideon replied, “how can I rescue Israel? My clan is the weakest in the whole tribe of Manasseh, and I am the least in my entire family!”
Judges 6:15, NLT

In Judges 6, an angel had just called Gideon a “mighty hero,” whom the Lord God was with, and told him to “go in this might of yours, and you shall save Israel from the hand of the Midianites.” You can tell from Gideon’s response that for years he had been feeding on thoughts of insecurity, doubt, and fear. He gave excuses for why he couldn’t do it, that his family wasn’t qualified, he wasn’t influential or talented enough, he wasn’t a leader. Gideon was at a critical point. Was he going to keep feeding his excuses, or would he believe he was a mighty hero, that he could do what God said, that he wasn’t lacking? Gideon did what we all must do: He changed what he was feeding. Instead of feeding fear, he started feeding faith and courage. Instead of feeding insecurity, he started feeding the mighty hero. He changed his attitude from “I can’t do this” to “God, You say it is so, and I believe Your Word.” Change what you’re feeding on, and it will change you.

Prayer For Today
“Father, thank You for the call to feed upon what You say about me and wake up what You put in me. Thank You that I am not limited by my past, by dysfunction passed down through my family, or by what others have said about me. I believe that You are going to help me rise up and be a mighty hero. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Blossom in the Wilderness

The desert and the parched land will be glad; the wilderness will rejoice and blossom. Like the crocus, it will burst into bloom; it will rejoice greatly and shout for joy.
Isaiah 35:1–2, NIV

At some point, we all feel stuck in a dry desert place. We’re stuck in a challenge, stuck in the past, stuck in a bad break, in a disappointment, in a hurt. It’s easy to settle there and think, “God has been good to me, but I’ve seen my best days. I’ve had some victories in the past, but it’s been one difficulty after another, struggle and lack.” But God never does His greatest work in your yesterdays; they’re always in your tomorrows. Your greatest victories, your most rewarding moments, the biggest achievements in your life are not in your past; they are still in front of you. You’re about to come into fresh momentum, a growing season, where you’re going to bloom and see new doors open and opportunities come to you. You’re going to see favor that you’ve never seen. It’s going to be uncommon, things you couldn’t make happen. You can’t explain it. It doesn’t make sense. It’s the hand of God. He is breathing on your life in a new way, empowering you to fulfill your purpose.

Prayer For Today
“Father, thank You that You are the Most High God and You never leave me to stagnate in a desert place. Thank You that Your greatest work in my life and my best days are still ahead. I declare that I am going to rejoice and blossom like a crocus in the wilderness. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”
